I just bought some camping gear and I have no clue where is a good spot to go camping in the NOVA area. Can any of you help?

I am sure our resident nature boy pirate could suggest areas but fitty does not do the camping thing

This (http://www.vvalley.com/cove/) is where we go. It has something for everyone, and is run by a very cool family.

You can also camp along skyline drive (http://www.shenandoah.national-park.com/camping.htm) if you want, but I don't like that as much, because the campsites are very close together and paved and not really 'wild'.

Let me know if you have ANY questions. :)

Well this all depends on if you want to do fake new jersey camping out of the back of your car in gravel parking lot surrounded by trees next to the highway, or if you want to do some kick ass rad backpacking fighting off bears and rattlesnakes type of shit.

There's tons of everything all along the Appalachian trail, but I would have to say my most fondest camping memories come from Catoctin Mountain. It's a very nice park with some neat falls, and a couple of kick ass hikes that aren't even too long: wolf rock and chimney rock. Wolf rock is probably bigger, but isn't for a view. It's more dicking around in crevices type of thing. Chimney rock has a really nice view and some good climbs too. You don't need ropes or special shoes or anything, they aren't that type of rock climbing. Catoctin is also the home of Camp David, so stop by and give Mr. Bush a hello.

If you want something a bit longer, Old Rag is a kickass trail. It's about 2-5 miles to rocky area, but when you get there it's like exploring an old city. One of my favorite trails. I don't think you're supposed to camp at the top, but you probably wouldn't want to bring your equipment up there anyways. It's a day hike, and you need to pack light and be nimble to get past some of the parts of the trail.
