View Full Version : Misheard song lyrics

For some reason, I really like songs where the singer is just barely on the verge of being understandable, especially when the wrong lyrics become what I hear forever. Unfortunately, it's very late right now and I can't really come up with any examples, but I'm sure you guys can. The reason I posted the thread in the first place was because of this simple YTMND.com entry. (http://hamnmustardshake.ytmnd.com) As with all of those, you need sound for it to make sense. I don't know why I find it so funny (perhaps mental retardation), but there you go. :) Your turn!

*edit: I thought this was pretty good, too. It's the beginning of the song that plays at the end of Matrix: Revolutions. It's similar to the music in my head during dinnertime. http://cornonthekabob.ytmnd.com/

There's a chorus in a Bob Marley song that goes: "we don't need, no more troubles", which I have recently begun hearing as: "we don't need, Hugo Chavez"...

don't go out tonight

it's bound to take your life

I think that's Dual of the Fates from Starwars Ep 1, but thanks for ruining what was left of that movie for me... from now on all I'll hear is Corn on the Cob....

Hmm. Yes, you're right. I went back and listened to the one from the Matrix and it's totally different. But at least I managed to expunge the remains of such a horrible film from your mind.

But in the spirit of not being mean to your topic, I'll let you know that I misunderstand lyrics all the time... most of them are not funny though. Just sad.

I still don't know any of the proper lyrics to Stairway To Heaven.
The closest I could come (even though it made no sense what so ever) was this:

(Real)
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow,
Don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.

(Mine)
If that's a bus stop in your hedgerow,
You'll be a Lawman
You get your sprinkles at the bakery.
Yes there are two-fers, you can go buy,
But in the long run
There's still time to change your ordering.

Now I KNOW that is totally wrong, it doesn't make sense with the song. But until the wonder that is Google... I had no idea what the right ones where and whenever I sang it, the people around me were too drunk to notice.

Also, it's not a song, but Orion and I used to LAN with a couple of guys that at the end of any map in UT where the announcer voice would say "Congratulations... You're a Winner" they would yell out, "Congratulations, Beef's for Dinner". That was usually good for a laugh the first 3 times.

I like to make up lyrics to Pearl Jam songs just because they're all pretty unintelligible.

Also, I've posted this before, but this is someone's interpretation of the Finnish version of the Duck Tales theme song. I dare you not to sing it this way for the rest of your life. http://uncutohh.ytmnd.com/

I think Circuit is spending too much time on ytmnd.com.

That's a very strange lyric. What song is it from?

I can't believe you would say something like that... and after I put myself out there like that.

Real lyrics from the Red Dwarf theme song:

I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose,
Drinking fresh mango juice
Goldfish shoals nipping at my toes
We'll have fun, fun, fun
In the sun, sun, sun

Circuit, you are taking the comments seriously. Why I don't know, because it should be really obvious they are just dumb comments.

I dated a guy once that thought Jimmy Buffet 'stepped on a pop tart' in Margaritaville - when in fact, it was a 'pop top'...

The other day, I caught my husband singing 'Conspicuous Girl' - I had to laugh & say "you know, it's really 'Promiscuous Girl' don't you?" :bg:

Why would she assume "top tart"? Assuming you mean "pop tart", Jenn posted that like 3 months ago in this very thread. :)

I'm with Circuit - I don't see the humor.

Eggplant has just never gotten any good roles. I saw Eggplant headlining at a local comedy spot. Maybe it was because i had already imbibed the minimum ammount of 8 dollar drinks, but Eggplant was hilarious!

Eggplant in person uses alot of blue humor. Which i totally wouldn't have expected from Eggplant.

& in a 2nd post (to boost the ones JR killed in his 'I hate emoticons & birthdays' thread) I was recently on the Grey's Anatomy website (yes, I love the show) & this girl started a whole thing about 'throwing pinecones' because her boyfriend once said that to a guy that cut him off in traffic - the whole thing has turned cultish in a 'sensitive' way to say you're ludacris, ridiculous or just disagree - I like it & think it's kitsy :bg:

Even more than that guy's Peter Pan page? I'd link to it but mercifully I don't recall the URL.

EDIT: As it turns out, it's the first hit on Google. Yikes (http://www.pixyland.org/peterpan/), I say. Yikes.
