Here's just a couple (!) of tips for people who haven't played for awhile. I've mentioned a lot of this over Ventrilo.
• three additional costume slots, accessed by completing missions at 20, 30, 40
20: Speak to Icon tailor in Steel Canyon
30: Speak to Icon tailor in Independence Port
40: Speak to Icon tailor in Founders' Falls
• cape mission at level 20 and auras available at level 30. Get both missions from the city representative at City Hall in Atlas Park.
• new zones since 2004:
The Hollows: level 5-15 hazard zone. The community of Eastgate after the Trolls made a big oopsie there. Features insanely hard Cavern of Transcendence trial.
Striga Isle: level 20-30 hazard zone. Has two task forces, Moonfire and Ernesto Hess. Hess is the best TF in the game, in my opinion. Striga is the homebase of the Council.
Croatoa: level 25-35 city zone. Has Katie Hannon TF. Steeped in Celtic mythos.
All three zones have self-contained contacts and missions - you will never be sent out of the zones for missions/story arcs.
• four PvP zones
Bloody Bay: level 25, min. to enter is 15. Heroes vs. Villains.
Siren's Call: level 30, min. to enter is 20. Heroes vs. Villains.
Warburg: level 38, min. to enter is 30. Free for all.
Recluse's Victory (Issue 7): level 50, min. to enter is 40. Heroes vs. Villains.
All PvP zones also have PvE missions (except RV) and zone goals.
• Enhancement Diversification (ED):
Putting more than three of the same type of enhancement in a power has little benefit. With single origin enhancements, the scale is like so:
1st SO = 100%
2nd SO = 100%
3rd SO = 95%
4th SO = 5%
5th SO = 5%
6th SO = 5%
This effectively caps boosting a power to roughly 100% instead of the previous 200%.
• difficulty setting
You can now adjust mission difficulty by going to a Hero Corp Field Analyst in any city zone. There is an influence fee for changing the setting. Settings work roughly as follows:
Heroic - default. 0 and +1 mobs.
Tenacious - 0 and +1 mobs in larger groups.
Rugged - +1 and +2 mobs.
Unyielding - +1 and +2 mobs in larger groups.
Invincible - +2 and +3 mobs.
• exemplaring
Basically reverse sidekicking. A player invites you to exemplar down to their level. You earn no XP in this mode but debt payment is doubled. You earn influence and prestige.
• Respec trial (aka Terra Volta trial)
Available at three level ranges, 24-33, 34-43, 44-50. Completing this trial will give you a respec that allows you to change the powers in your primary, secondary and pool power sets. You cannot change the actual primary/secondary sets, however. Trial requires a minimum of four players. Earned respecs are handled via Jack Wolfe, an NPC in the Freedom Corp building in Galaxy City.
• Free respec
Every existing character has a free respec as part of Issue 6. You can use a free respec by typing /respec. Be careful to not do this in a place where you can be attacked. Respecs copy with characters to the test server if you want to experiment before committing.
• New powersets for defenders/blasters/controllers
Archery, Trick Arrow
Sonic Blast, Sonic Resonance
• running in supergroup mode now earns prestige for the SG. Prestige is used to fund bases and items within them. Prestige is stored by the SG and is not something the player "carries".
• salvage now randomly drops while fighting mobs. It is used to craft items for SG bases and will in the future be used for the more personal invention system (likely to create temporary powers among other things).
Lots of other little things, too, like new mission types, some revamped missions, badges, accolade powers and so on.
