I know other people have had different experiences, but when I reformatted the last time, all I did was copy the entire Steam directory over and it worked with no problems.

I'm pretty sure Episode One is a standalone game, so you shouldn't need to reinstall HL2.

It's about a gig on my system so it either is standalone or uses super-mega-jumbo textures.
