View Full Version : Any interest in CoH again for a bit

Talking in IRC there seemed to be some interest in playing CoH for a little while. 30 days or so. Either restarting accounts or I think Ned has some short time free ones. Is anyone interested in playing this for a while? If not is there anything else people are interested in playing? I'm bored with the games I'm playing. :)

I too am bored with my current menu of games, and think I could probably play a month or so of CoH without it covering too much of the same ground. You can count me in, but I only have the one level 26 (28?) level character. I don't know if I'm real interested in starting a new character unless levelling has become easier, there's new classes to play, or there's new low-level content.
At any rate, provided I kept my name, Whiplynch is game.
How soon can we get started? ;)
Depleted Uranium is still alive on Pinnacle, and Barsoomian on Triumph.

The Hollows have been added since you last played, jackrabbit. It's a 5-15 hazard zone and typically sucks in nearly all players in that level range.
Leveling is easier now, thanks mainly to reduced endurance costs (less downtime) and bigger mission bonuses.
No new ATs but a few new powersets: archery, trick arrow, sonic blast and sonic resonance.
The Martian Cartel SG still exists on Triumph. Oddly, it is Martian-themed. The main group is Champions of Mastery, with its fabulous SG base.

I'd be interested. If leveling is faster, it might help hold my interest. I felt like I was hitting walls with all my characters... kinda how I feel about WoW now too.

ya know, you could give Guild Wars: Factions a try...
and who didn't see that coming...

I really didn't like the quest system. I also did not enjoy limiting myself in skills after working to gain them. etc. etc.
Looked pretty though

Well, Tai, jackrabbit and I joined forces and the result can be summed up in one word:
Debt!
:P
It was still fun, though.

you have to realize I knew those responses would occur... i even foresaw the train wreck in a vision...

I am truly a complete nub. I'd forgotten how to play for a bit. If it weren't for Ned dumping heals on me, I'd have spent the whole night dead. Luckily, Gamer Memory kicked in and soon I was playing as poorly as I did when I left. It is nice to do a substantial amount of damage, though - quite a change from playing my warrior in WoW.
The gameplay is still fast and fun, and it seems like enhancements and (the little colored square things) drop more than they used to. Plus I was levelling fairly quickly.
I know I said I didn't intend to, but I started a new mutation blaster last night. She's a trickshot/freeze named Vegas Kate, and frankly she's pretty hot. I must have some weird thing with making female characters since WoW. I guess I may as well be watching a shapely ass while arresting miscreants.
Arm, I actually did consider playing Guild Wars. I played the 10 day free trial during my first sabbatical from WoW and I really enjoyed it for many of the reasons I was disenfranchised with WoW. It looks great, there are more opportunities to avoid other annoying humans, the skills are varied, and the items are cool. I've got a lot of respect for the developers since some of them developed one of the Greatest Games Ever (Diablo 2. Screw what Q says). However, once Postal mentioned CoH and got the ball rolling, several others mentioned they'd like to revisit (or continue to play), and I'm a sucker for the Hive Mind.

Hey, I really liked Diablo 2. I played through the whole damn thing twice, and I very rarely do that with games.

ooh, I invite Kate to the SG when I see her!
I actually quite like the archery set. It's not the best if you're only interest in "OMG ULTRA DPS PWNZ U!!" but the look and animations work for me. I did get a trick arrow/archery defender to level 10 but trick arrow had "issues" and I abandoned the little guy. The good news is both sets are being improved in Issue 7.
I had actually reactivated my account on Friday but all my dudes were deleted (older than 90 days). :(
So I've begun making a few assorted new guys.
On Triumph I currently have a 9 BS/Regen Scrapper 'Oompah Loompah' (people stole all my names too :( )
And a 5 Empathy/Electric Defender named Archbishop
Ned if you could invite me to the SG tonight that would rock. :)

F7, if you load up the deleted characters, NCsoft pulls them from an archive. I recovered all of my characters this way. Hopefully you didn't choose to delete them!

Only the names can get grabbed after 90 days of account inactivity (and they recently dropped that policy, too, though a lot of names probably got snapped up in the meantime). If the characters are actually gone you should petition a GM to see if they can be restored. They will probably tell you to not make any new characters on the server(s) they were on, so if you have, that might be an issue.
I'll invite your new guys into the SG. Turn on SG mode and we'll have a fabulous base filled with frilly curtains, lava lamps and jars of organs!

Unfortunately I found this out with the first character I tried to play on my old server (Pinnacle). Someone had taken the name Oompa Loompa and I was forced to rename him but I have no desire to play a character named 'Poompaloompa'. :( There's a fine line between Oompa Loompa and Poompaloompa but DAMMIT IT'S ONE I REFUSE TO CROSS! There has to be standards in this world, thank Buddah! First they take your name and the next thing you know you're playing a Female Night Elf Druid leaping skyscrapers in your permanent transformation form of Q-Bert with every male character in the game trying to hump your orange snorkel.
Have you guys checked out CoV? I know it sucks starting over but the AT's from CoV are pretty badass and they have MUCH better costume options than CoH. I made a character named 'Helloween' that's an evil orange pumpkin looking dude. He's hilarious. :p
But yeah, I'll be playing either Oompah or Archbishop on Triumph. Whichever one would help out the SG more.

Circuit and I have a villain SG on Triumph, too - Evil Donut Crusaders.
EDIT: Thread moved for obvious reasons. :)
Wait...I thought you guys were on Triumph?

Both SGs are on Triumph.
Heroes: Champions of Mastery
Villains: Evil Donut Crusaders

I still contend that it's absurd to have your heroes and villians on the same server. Who's side are you on anyway?

I'm on your side, baby!
Plus it makes it convenient for things like the hero/villain team-up events.
In retrospect, I would have had more slots for villains somewhere other than Triumph (and have lowbies scattered over Pinnacle and Virtue) but Carl the Bat is 27 and I love the little guy.

Ned has cajoled me into playing CoV. I dabbled in it for about an hour last night and really do enjoy it over CoH. It looks much better and seems better realized. I'm excited to get home tonight and crime it up!
I made a counterpoint to my hero, Whiplynch. Right now he's named Ripwinch, but I find that name hard to say and harder to remember, so I'll probably remake him as Riplynch. Plus I gave him the same skillsets thinking they'd be different as a villian, but they're pretty much the same.

I like how you followed the "blue is good, red is evil" pattern CoV started. Without realizing it, I did the same thing with Pretty Unit 9's villain counterpart. :/
