I picked it up last night off Steam and I know a few others have it or may be buying it soon. It is only $24.95 so maybe we can all jump on this and try a Smackdown?

Do you know what's changed between this and the mod (free) version?
(For those who might not know, Red Orchestra was the winner of the "Make Something Unreal" mod contest for UT2004.)

got it last night. Still on the fence about it though.

Quite a bit has changed since the mod. I can't describe all of the changes, you really just have to play it.
Bri - I would suggest loading up a map like Odessa in the Practice Mode and fucking around in there and getting all your controls set up. That map we played last night was a clusterfuck.

we played a couple more maps after you left. It's not really the controls though. I just have to figure out if the physics are actually realistic or just not so good.
Don't get me wrong though, the gameplay itself is damn fun and I love the tactical feel to it.

Quoted from the manual.
Ostfront uses real-world ballistic calculations. Simply put, the rounds fired will drop as they travel. The amount they drop depends on the gun firing and the distance traveled. For instance, the K98 drops far less than the MP40. An MP40's bullet will drop a theoretical 4 inches at a range of 50 yards and more than a foot at 100 yards.
In contrast, the K98 will only drop 3 inches at 100 yards and 8 inches at 150 yards.

Yeah, the movement is a little bit funky, but I think that's just because it so much different from other games. There's that inertia from running that you build up that doesn't just instantly go away when you let go of the key. Stuff like that. I think it just takes some getting used to, because even I've found myself accidently exposing myself from cover, etc.
I kinda like the bullet physics though. Most people aren't going to be able to make those kinds of calculations, so your range actually plays a part in how you play. Someone with a rifle of any sort is going to be able to hit someone with a submachine gun much easier at a distance, so getting yourself in range or waiting for a target to come in range is something to be aware of now. I dig it. :D

Most people aren't going to be able to make those kinds of calculations,
...not unless they were in the Army. I still know exactly where to aim to counteract bullet drop on four different weapon systems. :D

I said most, didn't I? :D
I played Operation Flashpoint obsessively, so I know where to shoot as well.
That's why I said I was a tack driver yesterday, Kieth. I was watching these poor shmucks that were a good 200+ meters out shooting at me and watching the dust from their fire kicking up 10 feet in front of me. I'd aim, adjust for the range, and pop them.
Now if wind were a factor too... hoo boy.
