View Full Version : Taking suggestions for the next Smackdown

Here's the official-type thread for the next Smackdown for people to suggest things like maps, mods and such. The game will be UT2004, since most of us have it. Teamplay is likely if turnout is sufficient.
Date is "soon", depending on how quickly everything can come together.
Suggest away!
Requirements for UT2004 are updated in the stickied thread. Bonus: Now everyone can run the game at 2000x2000 resolution!
I would love to use some silly mod like Momentum Control or Killeporter. Or maybe some Pinata!

I'd love to play UT2004 again. I agree with Q that it should be using some zany mod.

Q was the official silly mod guy.
I'll start looking for maps that would suit one or more of them there thingies.

I guess I'd have to actually purchase UT2K4. I mean, I have it, but I don't think I can play online. I would like to join in, however.
I'm going to have to go buy antoher copy too, I can't find my disks. On the plus side, it is $9.99 now! :)

I've seen UT2004 at Best Buy here in Vancouver, although it's not listed on either the US or Canadian version of the website. Amazon has a bunch of different versions, it seems, with prices all over the place.
I am working on getting the map/mod/gametype nailed down this weekend with the intention of running the Smackdown next Sunday, March 12th (yes, I realize there may be a conflict with other Sunday night activities - you make your choice however you like, this is just something to do for fun).

I'm going to ask for a guinea pig to volunteer to make sure the server is running properly, since it's been patched and my network hardware has changed since the last SD. This will be either tonight (Monday) or tomorrow and should only take a few minutes. You'll need to have the Mega Pack installed. The Community Bonus Maps will be optional as I won't be using them for testing.
just waiting for my disks to arrive...

I hate you all.
:( I'm sorry, no disks yet :( For that matter, I should go check, I don't think I've gotten a shipped message yet...
edit: Amazon claims it shipped, but the tracking number provided is bogus. They say it should be delivered between the 8th and the 10th.

Okay, I don't hate you, Tai.
But I hate everyone else! Grarr!

I'll rejigger my UT2004 and help you. At least I would've. Hate makes me sad. :(
I still need to install UT2k4. Stupid 6 cds...
Unfortunately, I have work or school every night the rest of this week, and plans tonight. Next free time is Sunday...
Sorry!

Ned, looks like you have some fume in your mad. You should probably take it back to the dealership and see if they can fix that.
Also, I have UT2k3, but not 4. I was a bit disappointed by the implementation of vehicles in the demo so I never picked it up. However, I no longer play vball on Sunday, so I'd be interested in Smackdowns should you choose a game I own or can get. Does everyone have Halo? It's like $6.99 at Target.
Plus revitalization of the SDs would give me a reason to finish my stupid PHP/MyMSQL Smackdown Keep Tracker Of-er Page. It was getting pretty swanky near the end of the last dev cycle (dev cycle = last time I was bored).

We did a Halo Smackdown once.
Four people played, making it the worst-attended Smackdown EVAR.
Also, still need someone to test the server.

I will reinstall tonight after worky.
JR, you didn't like 2k4's vehicles? They were amongst the most enjoyable vehicles I've ever encountered in an FPS. Well, the ground ones. The fliers kinda sucked.
That hover thing (Manta? I forget) was great, and I loved the little blade arms on the go cart.

Testing complete!
Except for Circuit and his dirty dodge cheat, the server appears to be in good working order.

I won't be in town this weekend, but I do want to get back into the routine of Smacking things Down (TM). UT2004 was a blast.

Also, there are some mods out that replace the UT2K4 vehicles, such as the UT2K4 Command & Conquer Vehicle Mod (http://www.fileplanet.com/148797/140000/fileinfo/UT2004-C&C-Vehicle-Mutator), we could look at.
I think my little brother was even making a vehicle mod!

Would there be any interest in a CS:S smackdown? I don't have ut2k4.
Creole Ned

We may run CS: Source again, people seemed to enjoy it. I'm testing the waters with UT2004 because I'm more familiar with the admin functions and everyone in general is more familiar with the game itself.
We probably won't be playing this weekend because it seems like people are still trying to hunt down copies but I may have a server up to just goof around on.

I have CS:S so that would be cool. But honestly I don't think I'm going to pick up UT2k4 I'd never play outside of the occasional SD.
Creole Ned

We've used UT2004 nearly 30 times for Smackdowns. Counting warm-ups and the occasional pub post-SD, that's easily over 30 hours of play just centered around the SDs. It was well worth the investment for me, even as a once-a-week thing.
If you were just starting now, maybe not so much, but the game is also considerably cheaper than it was two years ago, too.
You probably just don't want to lose, admit it! :madhop:
Bridude is ghastly sick in FPS games. If he does break down and buy UT, can I be on his team please?

Is he better than Circuit or F7?
Speaking of Mr. Letternumber, he hasn't posted in a looooong time.

is ghastly sick defined as finding the rocket launcher and perching with it?
That's what I remember of Bri in HL-DM :wavey:

also, my vote for smackdown in Unreal. Not Unreal Tourny, not Unreal2, but Unreal. Patched just up to before it turned into the brown game.

The Smackdown will be next Sunday, March 19th. Official-type thread will be posted tomorrow.
Hrm, the wife will be getting back from Ireland that evening, but perhaps jetlag will force her to bed early... that was fun last night, definately looking forward to more of those
