I played while it was in Beta (is it still in beta? It spent at least 2 years in various rounds of beta testing...I was in the 6th round, as I recall).

It's free lancer, but with a slower pace. In the beta I was in, the only thing really turned on was mining, plus some commerce runs, so there wasn't much to do. Mining is not interesting at all, it's just slow and tedious. Based on the bits I saw, I would not recommend it.

Mining can be quite exciting in the lower security areas, say .4 and lower. Youre under constant threat of attack and pretty much have to have several ships watching your back while you mine if you want a good chance of leaving alive.

FiX used to play this game, i tried it out. It was fun, but didn't hook me since no one else I knew played it.

ok, I now have the 14 day trial going and it seems like a very pretty version of the old Mac game, Escape Velocity.

Lets see how it pans out over the next 13 days.

Seriously. I thought it never ended. It does do a really good job of helping you learn the ropes though.
