View Full Version : Priest Equipment
My equipment is pretty lame for my level 52 (I've had most of it since the 30's), so I'm trying to build up a list of equipment I should try to aquire. I will gladly take any recommendations anyone might be able to throw out there. This is what I am currently wearing:

Main Hand: Changuk Smasher
33.4 DPS, +6 sta, +6 int, +5 spi

I also have Illusionary Rod, but haven't been using it since i got the mace above:

I have no trinkets

Tai, I really have only one piece of advice for decking out your priest: Dire Maul. Pretty much everything you will want in terms of bluies is there. If you are a collector, you may want to run the other instances to get the Devout set, but the stats are really not worth it. I have the entire set except for the bracers, and I really wear only 3 pieces of it (because the DM items I want instead have never dropped). If you are a tailor, you can also get some patterns and make some cool purple chest pieces for yourself. (These patterns make items that are BOP, so you cannot have somebody else make them for you.)
For PvP, I have seen priests either go for the Dreadmist set or for the Necrophile set that drops in Scholo. I think there is a hat that drops in UD Strat that has good PvP stats. And there are also some good things that you can buy from vendors outside the battlegrounds once you gained enough PvP rank. You cannot buy the items without the needed rank, but you can see them in the vendors' inventory and look at the stats.
And now it's Pogo's turn to give you the list of specific items, which he can, I am sure, quote all from his amazing memory despite the fact that he does not even play a priest. :bg: [Andri <--------- jealous of that memory]
Where is Dire Maul? Is it doable by a level 52? Is it doable solo, or will I need to round up the aliens?
Dire Maul is located in Feralas and is a high level 5 man instance.
Over the last 2 months/8 levels I've added the following replacements:
Resplendent Circlet of the Eagle
65 ac, +18 sta, +18 int
Quicksilver Pendant of the Eagle
+9 int, +10 sta
Elder Wizard's Mantle
60 ac, +20 int, +11 dmg and healing spells
Swashbuckler's Cape of Intellect
33 ac, +12 int
Mooncloth Robe
87 ac, +12 sta, +25 int, +12 spi
Stoneflower Staff
47.4 dps, +24 int, +1% crit with spells
Selenium Loop of Intellect
+13 int
Selenium Loop of the Owl
+9 int, +9 spi
Mooncloth Boots
55 ac, +11 sta, +14 int, +13 spi
Abyssal Cloth Pants of Sorcery
+15 sta, +15 int, + 18 dmg and healing spells
Elunarian Belt
44 ac, +6 sta, +20 int, +10 spi
Abyssal Cloth Handwraps of Resoration
48 ac, +10 sta, +24 healing spells, +4 mana per 5 secs
Which by my rudimentary calculations (usually wrong) gives me:
116 more armor class, +14 stamina, +83 int, -8 spirit, - 10 agi (who needed that anyway?), +53 to healing spells, +29 to damage spells, +1% chance to crit, and +4 mana per 5 seconds. This brings my totals to:
ac 630, before inner fire (+950 ac)
int 120, + 191 from items
stam 50, + 137 from items
spi 131, +54 from items
Still, that's only +10 int per level, so I think I have a lot more to go (after we get Q some upgrades)!

You want spirit, not int!

Don't you have some other caster to butcher, Mr. Elemental?
Generally speaking, I have found that mana regen does not matter much in PvP. At least one on one PvP. Standing in the back keeping people alive in Alterac Valley was another story entirely of course.

As with all classes and all stats, it depends on what you want to do. If you PvP a lot, you can probably get away with a smaller mana pool and take more +stam and mana regen instead. If you make healing your main occupation, +int, +spir, and +healing are your friends. There is a tradeoff between those three, and all priest players have a slightly different take on what they prefer. I focused mostly on +int and +healing but am now going towards more spirit and mana regen. Plus healing might be the best option if you go a lot in 5 man groups and if u use renew a lot.
Here are a couple of gear suggestions, but keep in mind that I am a healer and do not PvP unless in defense. My gear is all tailored to healing.
Chest: Devout Robe or the ugly turquoise healing robe that drops in UBRS. You can also use the Dreadmist or Magisters Robes, but if you roll on those against Locks/Mages who want them, you will not gain friends.
Attainable without running MC or anything of comparable magnitude are the Truefaith Vestments for your chest. It's a purple BOP which requires you to be a tailor and have the pattern to craft it for yourself (at least I believe so). I know a lot of people who wear it instead of the Prophecy robes.
Trinkets: Blessed Prayer Beads (ST Quest obtained in Aszhara); Insignia of the Alliance (I'd consider this a must-have to wear at all times outside instances. Definitely your best friend against rogues.)
Legs: Padre's Trousers from DM are probably the best for healing. There are also the Skyshroud Leggings (+int) and Manastorm Leggings (+mana regen). I just can't recall where they dropped (I think they all come from DM). I would prefer all of those over Devout (which drop off Baron Rivendare in UD Strat).
Head: Crown of the Ogre King (DM North)
Weapon: Staff of the Ogre Magi (DM North), Lorespinner Dagger
Off-Hand Item: Some nice Tome drops in Scholo; some Glowing Orb with good stats drops in DM North
Belt: Whipvine Cord (comes off Lethtendris in DM as far as I recall), Thuzadin Sash
Back: Cloak of Cosmos (no idea where I got that from), which is almost as good as Hide of the Wild (purple cloak that a leatherworker can craft for you for an insane amount of expensive mats)
Feet: Dragonrider Boots (off Rend in UBRS), Devout Sandals, or Maleki's Footwraps (UD Strat)
Keep also in mind that you can augment your gear with a variety of enchants. You can go for +int/spir/healing on your gear's base stats and then add stam or damage resistance through enchants.
Thank you, that's a bunch of solid advice, just what I needed rather than trying to trawl through thottbot! :) Anyone want to go to DM? :)
