Well, no...

But Maxell is releasing the first commercial application of their "holographic" disc technology late next year. Looking alot like an HD-DVD inside a floppy disc-style protector, the first product will hold 300GB of data and have a data transfer rate of 20mbps. They've gotten the technology up as high as 1.6TB and 120mbps, but that presumably will be for later release.

Awesome! Is this just for removable storage, though?

With a 20mps transfer rate I certainly hope so. That's horrible. It would take over 4 hours to back up your drive.

Although with 300gb per disk I may be able to back up my entire pron collection.

And Fitty, I coundn't play your video file, but if it is what I think it is...

Oops. Right, I read that as 20 gigs per second, which is just slightly more impressive. And with the article saying that the technology was superior to current hard drives, I never gave the transfer rate a second thought. So basically this is just like a fancy DVD burner with gigantic media. Still cool, but not as cool as I thought it was before.
