The decline of forum activity is obviously related to the frequency of all those thousands and thousands Ned posts.

I would love to see a fully thought out graph of posts / year for our biggest posters.

Hi SirKut who ignores my snide remarks in the shared channel we have.

Insert snide remark here.

Btw, I am now at 4 80's and just hit 60 with my hunter and stuck at 75 with my mage.

Someone with decent math skills or even rudimentary math skills (not me) could do this.

I nominate Tick.

An accurate breakdown by year wouldn't be possible, though, because all of our post counts also include the posts from the phpBB2 forums from 2005 and earlier and the old forum currently exists only as an SQL file. However, a nice graph showing that I have hogged most of the overall posts would be simple enough as you can sort members by number of posts.

Heh, I'm usually in the middle of a raid if I'm online, so any ignoring was unintentional.

They should let you merge them into one super-mega level 320 behemoth that would stomp around and terrorize all of Azeroth.

In other post-padding news, Gnawbone, my ratonga bruiser in EQ2, is now level 51. I should find and update that old thread soon.

Circ, how's ICC treating you? It's not quite Ulduar, but there are some really fun fights in there, in my opinion.

I'm almost to my 3rd 80 now, actually - My hunter is my main and he's going strong, and then I've got a warrior with "I can tank ICC 25, but not by much" gear, and a druid at lvl 77, I've been leaving her alone for the last week or so to get her rested up for the push to 80.

For the first time since Naxx, our 25 is ranked higher on our server than our best 10 man, tho that probably won't last long as we get to start 10 man hard modes in ICC on monday, and we're still stuck on Sindragosa in 25. LK is a crazy, crazy fight, but it's fun, and I like it more than Yogg - Yogg had too much randomness. Also, the lore in the LK fight is very cool, tho the animation during the fight could be a lot better.

Instead of leveling alts lately, I've been working on a couple achievements I've been considering for a long time. I just finished 3000 Quests Completed on Wed night, after finishing my 2000th quest the same day I hit 80, about a year and a half ago. I'm only about 125 away from Loremaster, too.

Ned, what is the current level cap in EQ2? My very limited experience with EQ1 never included the higher level stuff, I think I maxed out in the mid-high 30s.

As for posts/year or the like, if it's all in a log file, you want someone with some sql db experience to parse that, and then it'd be pretty easy to pull some usable metrics out of it.

I haven't checked anything yet regarding forum logs but you can sort the member list by post count and the front page gives the total post number. Some smart cookie can probably put the two together to figure out the top ten spammers, especially since it drops off dramatically after the first three. :)

The level cap in EQ2 is now 90 as of the last expansion, Sentinel's Fate, which released in February. Level 50 was the level cap when the game shipped in 2004. Our regular group has been level-locked to 50 for about three weeks now doing various Heritage quests and it's pretty obvious that level 50 was originally the cap because a lot of the quests are very grindy (two of them require you to kill 100 and 1,000 things, respectively, and that's just one part of each chain).

We'll probably unlock and continue advancing this week.

A small group over at Quarter to Three tried an original EQ revival recently when Steam had the game on sale for $2.50. It only lasted a few weeks, with the general consensus being the game has not aged well, despite some improvements.

One of the things I like about WoW is that it's moved farther and farther away from the grindy aspects with every expansion. From the looks of things, for Cata, it'll get even better.

I'm not shocked EQ hasn't held up...the graphics were bad even when it was still somewhat current, and the game design left a lot to be desired - the crafting systems sucked major ass, for example. Just a giant money sink in a game that didn't hand out money very freely.

Creole Ned

Every major MMO that's come out in the last six years has been reducing the need to grind, so it seems to be a general trend away from the original EQ-style.

And here are the current top 10 posters:

Creole Ned 9,981
Tai 7,169
jackrabbit 6,054

Circuit 3,404
Kermit 3,081
Q 2,650
Dg3Nr8 2,416
pogozorro 2,214
Patton 2,141

Four of these people don't post anymore. They have a combined 12,825 posts of 44,158 total (roughly 29% of all posts if my math skills have not failed me once again).

how many of us are going to be heavily into Starcraft 2?

I'll be back on Moonrunner when Cataclysm comes out, it not before. I just have a huge backlog of single player games that I'm trying to make a dent in. L4D2 and TF2 aren't helping in that regard.

I'm still on Arthas. After everyone kinda fell away in BC, I took a year off, but when I came back I lucked out and found a raiding guild I really like.

Last night we killed Sindragosa in ICC 25 for the first time after nearly 5 hours of attempts (trash respawned twice, it's on a 2 hour timer). Next week we should get to start on Lich King 25.

We're working on the Glory of the Icecrown Raider achievement for the remainder of our raiders so they can have the fancy mount. Other than that, only heroic Lich King is left and we haven't put in any attempts on him yet.

Our guild's doing surprisingly well. We're currently #1 on our server for 10 man 'strict' progress and #18 and #10 in the World and US respectively, if you can believe that. Don't think we're some button-down, no-nonsense raiding guild, though. We've just been extremely lucky in finding people who are not only a blast to be around, but also outstanding players. Being a strictly 10 man raiding guild tends to attract people who want to raid because they genuinely enjoy it instead of just because they want loot. It's nice. :)

Tick

Sweet! You guys will be able to solve the loot problem in Cataclysm with the changes to raiding, too.

My 10 man group (which is almost entirely the guild's officers, of which I am one) finally got our LK 10 man kill last week, and we take our first shot at hard modes tomorrow. We only do one night a week, and because we run on mondays, if someone can't go it's often hard to find replacements, but we're making decent progress. We expect to get at least 6 or 7 hard modes down this week.

By all accounts, heroic LK is a nightmare. Good luck! The 10 man version gives a better title, in my opinion.
