I've played the PS3 version, and it's more like Battlefield 1942 than B2BC.

Okay, I know what BF1942 is like. Does one game have vehicles and the other not? Is one a budget title with two maps and the other is full price with six? :P It just seems a bit odd to have two new BF games launching pretty much simultaneously, so I'm figuring there's enough of a difference to not "split the community".

Ok... major failure on my part. The game I meant to ask about is Battlefield Heroes.

Battlefield Heroes (http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/frontpage/landingPage)

is a free-to-play browser based take on the Battlefield franchise. It's supposed to play similar to 1942, although it's trimmed down. It also uses stylized graphics, which got compared to TF2. They're more cartoony that TF2, though. There are only 3 classes, but you can customize your character from a wide variety of outfits and body parts. There are only 2, maybe 3, maps.

Now, all that said, I haven't played it yet, which is why I was soliciting opinions on it.

I played 3 hours of Battlefield 2 last night, and I had forgotten how much that game rocked. I still want something I can play more casually, which brings be back to Battlefield Heroes.

Now, having said all that, there IS a Battlefield 1943 coming, which will be 3 classes & 4 maps, basically an engine update to 1942 which will be out sometime and priced at $15.00.

If this was an Activision franchise they'd probably be tying it into Guitar Hero at this point.

I have seen some BH and heard more about it. I would not invest time in it.

BFBC2 is a fairly excellent team based large scale woo hooo explosions, vehicles and destructive mayhem(ic) game WHEN IT WORKS.

*a patch was released tonight, it might have fixed some of the issues.

I would (and am) playing BFBC2 over BH, and will continue to split time between BC2 and TF2 - the vehicles in BC2 make it quite difficult unless you have a coordinated team. Best we've managed so far is two squads of 4 on a 16 person team...

** the patch tonight was not for Steam PC. so blah.

I have high hopes for Battlefield 1943, if only because I loved 1942 so much and played it to death until the modern warfare mod came out.

But i'm not buying anything until i beat:

Supreme Commander 2
Dragon Age: Origins / Awakening
Halo 3
Halo: ODST
Assassin's Creed 2
God of War 3
Aliens Vs. Predator

all of which are sitting at my desk... so i've got my gaming set for awhile i think.. especially considering i'm finding myself back at Team Funcom TF2 so often.

I have to admit, it rivals the old 5250 (or whatever # they were) servers of Tribes past.

Battlefield 1943 is so compelling the thread is now discussion of a different three year old game.

So it would seem. :) Guess that might change once 1943 comes out (but I wouldn't bet on it :p )
