Here's a magazine writup on my latest game, coors light 1st and cold (available now for iphone and ipod touch)

It doesn't say much about the game, just that it's there and it's a novel new marketing strategy for Coors Light.

I can tell you more about the game. I'm the lead developer / designer on it. That means i don't really do anything directly. i suggest ways of doing it to the people i supervise and get frustrated when they don't understand me, or i am not clear enough.

There are control issues that i wish we could have ironed out. the accelerometer just kind of sucks. It actually controlled much better with an on screen joystick, but something about client expectations for accelerometer control meant we had to go with the inferior accelerometer controls.

The best part of the game was after we deployed it. someone out there discovered a bug that allowed you to get double bonus points. I think i had the most fun with the game trying to find the bug, then perfect the exploit and take the top spot on the leader boards. fun!

just got off the phone with the client. we explained the details of exploit that was found in the game and offered to fix it and deploy a new version.

Then, i went on to explain that after learning how to use the exploit it's actually kind of fun. It is performed in game, by playing the game, and using the mechanics provided by the game. It's availble to anyone who has the game, but requires some skill to find, and then pull off.

We offered the client the option of keeping the game as is, and just waiting to see if people decry the exploit as horrible, or actually spend more time finding the game, and playing with the exploit to try to beat others.

Amazingly, the client was very receptive to this approach and decided to leave the game as is.

Score one for progressive emergent gameplay!

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

I'd see if you can rekindle interest in it with a youtube video showing how to exploit the hack in a couple months.

It's actually not a bad little game. It's on my iPod touch right now.

Nice Rat. i just tried it on my iPhone. I see your #1 and #2 ranked. I'm 1906 though I didn't cheat. :) I did find that the 3rd pattern made passing easy. The defenders seem to get stuck a lot of times and both guys will run to the left even though the pattern makes it look like only one will run that way.

thanks postal.

but it's not cheating if i condone it.

btw. i've determined that it is possible to beat my score, by quite a bit even. right now, i think the max score is likely around 1900, but i may actually be wrong on that. it could be even more.
