Because we obviously need a torchlight thread. :)

My ranged character is now level 17. She is named Tooth, and her cat is named Claw. =P I just cleared floor 15 and am embarking on one of Hatch's quests for a break. :)

I've been holding off using all my stats and skill points, because I do not know how much the respec potion (http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2132) costs (I have not installed the mod yet).

I did find this skill calculator (http://calc.torchlightinsider.com/index.php?c=3#?b=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 ,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 ,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0) though, so that helps see some of the higher levels.

I also realized on my drive in today that I could probably learn a level 3 spell from a scroll without having learned 1 or 2. *lightbulb* I am looking forward to getting home and trying that out.

My gunslinger is lvl 36 or something. I have a rifle that does 620 dps and maxxed out explosive projectile that does 150% or more weapon damage in a 5m radius. It ended up making the game too easy.

What difficulty were you playing on? I noticed the game recommends Hard for people "familiar with action RPGs" (ie. Diablo whores).

I am playing on Hard even though I never played D2 :) I am dying a fair amount though. I really need to spend my stat points. It looks like for ranged I really need def and dex, but also str and magic to wear armor and wield the magic weapons.

Postal|Home: I put my best weapon on the enacht and lost all stats

eek! :( On Vista, your save files are in c:\Users\<USER_NAME>\AppData\Roaming\runic games\torchlight\save\

Periodic backups are your friend.

Diablo 2 is pretty hard on the eyes now. You can only watch characters that look like they have to poo every time they move so many times.

Normal mode is, not surprisingly, much easier than Hard. I started a game with the alchemist and pretty much sailed through to level 5. I then tried a destroyer and did the same thing and he chuffed health potions the same way an Olympic weight lifter takes steroids. I actually prefer Normal mode because it lets me kind of zen out while playing, making the experience more relaxing.

Because D2 is nearly 10 years old and runs at 800x600.

Correction, the D2 expansion pack runs at 800x600, the original ran quite well on 15" monitors at 640x480.

I've heard rumors that there is a hack or something that will allow you to run it at higher resolutions, but that it makes the game unstable. I should check into that. A Diablo II run might quench my WoW button pushing fixation long enough to get me by.

I've used the resolution hack and it even works in co-op (Q and I tried it). The problem is that while it makes the game fit the screen better, the performance and look are still not anywhere close to ideal, mainly because Diablo 2 is not a 3D game that can scale up gracefully.

It also does not fix the 'gotta potty' thing. :P

I'm actually now undecided on the difficulty in Torchlight. Normal and Hard each has its merits. Hmm.

I just died at the end of floor #18 after killing the big boss. I chose to resurrect in town. After ruunning all the way back down there from the last waypoint, I arrived to find the entire floor has reset. :(

Not sure if this is true or not, from the Torchlight forums:

I mean, that the basic blue stats that are on uniques will reappear on wiped items if left in the shared stash, not the extra ones added by enchanter. I think you have to reload game to get it to happen as I have noticed it doesn't happen in same session.

Its strange but it seems the original Mythos game will see the light of day. I wonder what this means for the Torchlight MMO.

It doesn't mean much at all, I'd suspect. The crew that worked on Mythos at Flagship pretty much moved in its entirety to Runic to create Torchlight. The company that got the rights to Mythos brought in a new team to finish that game. I guess Mythos could still be decent but I'm not getting a good vibe from it.

It is a very worthwhile game. I paid 20$ and I feel I got a 50$ game out of it.
