having played the Dungeon Siege 2 demo...

combined with the draw of the new 1.11 patch (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt01827p)...

I reinstalled Diablo 2: LOD.

I'm weak.

I never uninstalled it after the 1.10 patch. Never actually played it with the 1.10 patch, either, come to think of it.

what happens if you got to about the 10-15th level of the "same fucking dungeon" in Diablo 1, realized you'd never get out of that dungeon, uninstalled the game and never gave Diablo 2 a second glance? What happens then?

I did the same thing JR. Dunno what it is but I have the D2 bug again.

Funny thing is, I can't decde on a class or whether to just do SP or go MP(bnet has been lagging like crazy).

Regardless, my characters are gone so I have to start over. :mad:

I'd play. Constant MC/Onyx runs get kind of monotonous and too much BF2 is bad for the heart. Plus I'll NEVER get Lance Corporal this year. :mad:

Kermit, I'll mainly be playing solo, and have a few machines I can use as a server if it becomes necessary. Additionally, I probably won't be playing D2 as often as I might if I wasn't playing WoW and GTA:SA.

I might be up for playing once a week or so, but I don't think we'd need a dedicated server, given the likely intermittent use it would get.

Then again, after seeing what the game looks like at 800x600 on my LCD monitor, I may opt to play something with better visuals, such as Tetris or Tetris Deluxe.

I played D2 for an hour last night.

After 3 years of playing it you'd think I'd instinctively remember how.

That was not the case.

I had a hard time targeting stuff because... well, you DON'T target stuff. You just kinda hover over stuff until you see that its life bar is going down. I had a problem seeing dropped gear because I no longer remember what sound gear makes. In fact, I kept picking up utter crap cause I forgot my inventory limitations and the fact that "vendor trash" in Diablo2 makes up 90% of all drops. I forgot you can only have 2 skills active at any time. I forgot you have to have your hands on the keyboard to use potions quickly enough to matter. I forgot you have to heal your hireling by shift-clicking on a potion. I forgot it costs 20k to rez your hireling. I forgot that you can't walk through mobs, and it's really easy to get stuck in a circle of them and burn through 3 full purple potions before you clear a path big enough to escape from. I forgot that lighting enchanted mobs are the bane of my very existance, and lighting enchanted stoneskin mobs are twice as bad and you should probably run away. I forgot that you COULD run away. I forgot that even at 800x600 the game looks five years old and not in a good way. I forgot you lose experience AND a percentage of your gold you're carrying when you die, and I was carrying a LOT of gold. I forgot to set up town portals before fighting bosses I suspected would kill me. I forgot that robed dude will identify items for you and you don't have to waste scrolls. I forgot that robed dude's name. I forgot what the stats were on my gear and picked up crap that was far inferior. I forgot what those stats meant anyhow. I forgot that I have a ton of characters at level 50 because Hell difficulty is too hard to continue to 51. I forgot that the single level 60 character I have gets his ass kicked in hell. I forgot that there are 99 levels, and not 60, explaining the previous. I forgot that I stopped playing this game when the monotony set it and the good gear was fewer and farther between.

I loved this game for 3 years and will always love it. I consider it one of my favorite games of all time, if not THE favorite. However, as with all things nostalgic, it was probably better for me to have left the memories unrealized and impeccable than to have gone back and sullied them with the ravages of time and reality.

I'll probably play it some more cause I'm a glutton, but there's no way this will ever have the pull that it once did. It's just too fucking ugly now.

i play on superfast (the KZ one) every day... great server, but every time F7 is there, he is:

1) first place every time

2) always on the OTHER team from me

3) CONSTANTLY killing me before i can even pull the trigger!

so i am back to how i used to play UT.. if i see F7, i run the other way like a little girl... and you should too!
