View Full Version : Video Conferenceing
Do any of you do any video conferencing? If so, what software do you use? Any particular reason you use that one? I'm trying to get myself set up...

I use PornVid and the camera that's built into the laptop. The angle is a bit awkward as sometimes you can see part of my face, but otherwise it gets the job done. I use the free version that you can grab here http://pornvid.com/trial but the pay version adds things like being able to save the feed, sepia and black and white overlays, and surround sound (requires 2 mics).
Overall I've been happy with it. The sound quality isn't fantastic, but in conjunction with the video quality I feel it meets a healthy balance. You can scale the video size up to 800x600, but the quality suffers beyond that, and the refresh takes a hit.
There are also free chatrooms and a lobby you can use to meet people. If you give it a try, I recommend trying the Singles channel under the Straight and Solo section. Most of the people in there are pretty tech-savvy and can help you troubleshoot configuration problems. There's a Tech Help channel under the Support section, both for trial and full version, but the free version help sucks. The techs are foreign (the company is based out of Norway) and their English is pretty bad.
Anyhow, if you try it, look me up. My Handle is 3MinuteMan.
I'm trying to decide whether you are being serious or not. :) I think the name alone will make it not acceptable for work, but I shall investigate. If I do, I'll make a name like 60MinuteMan - it is the internet after all.

I'm kidding. I wonder if that link even works.
If it does it probably opens up 20 popup windows. :)

I think you can with Skype HQ (High Quality) but there are limitations, you have to use certain compatible webcams, I think you are still limited to 2 participants with video (I think the limit is like 30 for audio)
Google Skype HQ and read up.

Found it (http://www.skype.com/business/allfeatures/videocall/#high-quality-video)
What do I need to get High Quality Video?
If you want to make High Quality Video calls – our clearest, crispest, sharpest ever video quality, you’ll need the latest version of Skype for windows, an optimised Logitech High Quality Video webcam with the latest webcam software. Plus a dual core processor PC and a fast broadband connection.
The supported cams run about $90 a piece. (http://accessories.skype.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayCategoryProductLis tPage&SiteID=skype&Locale=en_US&categoryID=4142000&parentCategoryID=4142000)
ar, thanks. We got two of the Pro 9000's each, so the camera is fine. I don't know if the company will spring for Skype, will have to check. I did just try one of these neat 3D web cams (http://www.minoru3d.com/) and it actually worked pretty well (although it is NOT what I am looking for, I need professional looking 30 fps crispy stuff for work). Fun although it might have been mistake to ask a coworker to throw one of our nerf footballs at (I meant towards) the camera.
