Foe said I was unbanned, but I didn't believe him.

Anyhow, after talking to JR and seeing Ned's Quarter to Three post, I came over and looked around and I noticed that even users not logged in can see the contents of the WRITE! forum.

Most publishers will view the contents as having been published, and depending on your intentions with the stories you work on here, this may later impact your ability to market and potentially sell the stories. Unless you are already well-known, most short story publishers want first rights to a story, and you would have to explain that you already published on a website.

Some care, some don't, but to be safe you might consider only allowing registered viewers the ability to see this forum. The established writing group sites do this not to stop people from seeing stories before they are ready for prime time, but mores o to protect the authors from losing the option to publish their stories as they see fit.

That's a good suggestion. I had originally lifted all restrictions on viewing/posting to this subforum but didn't go back to fine-tune them. I shall do so now.

And yes, the ban was lifted a good while back!

Plus this way, you'll have a better idea on who reports you to the authorities when they report you to the Feds (or Mounties) for writing your child ape scatological slash porn.

Apparently Hell froze over...

Nice to see you posting Pogo. Hope you'll consider joining in the other forums again too.

As a counterpoint to Pogo's post, though, I give you David Wellington's Brokentype.com (http://www.brokentype.com/pz/). Wellington got into the writing business with this website, publishing his novels in serial form... a new chapter every Monday, Wednesday & Friday. He's now releasing his 6th serial online (4 of which are now in print), and has 2 other print titles which aren't available online. By promoting himself this way, he got the interest of small niche publishers in doing printed books of his novels.

Yeah, it is an issue that can definitely be considered from multiple viewpoints. Changing the forum to be viewable from registered users only seems like a good compromise.

welcome back Pogozero... now how long will it be till you are smack-talking me in-game again? my ego has expanded too far.

Unfortunately, with work, four nights of classes, EMT volunteering, writing, and that pesky family that just keeps demanding attention, I wouldn't be able to until the summer break.

I do have inordinate time on things like the Metro or during incredibly "interesting" Biochem lectures, so I might be able to poke you with a stick via iPhone/laptop. :jester:
