It's that time of year again, to make silly promises you never keep then reflect back on them 12 months later with regret and remorse. Hooray!
Before I get to my resolutions, I'll look back and see how well I fared in 2008.
1. Lose some weight, specifically around ye olde gut. To help facilitate this, I am cutting out all junk food. I thought I could just cut down but nope, it has to be all or nothing, so nothing it is. Mmm, carrot sticks! The year started off disastrously for me, nutrition-wise. I was chugging one-liter jugs of chocolate milk, eating bags of chips and other snacks on a daily basis and fast food comprised most of my diet. In April I was declared pre-diabetic and told to change my ways or lose the "pre" part. As documented in the peed-in-a-cup thread, I've gone on to lose 36 pounds, have cut out all junk and fast food save for the very occasional low-sugar cocoa bar, started riding a bike to work, lifting weights and starting in January, I'll be floundering about in public swimming pools, too. To quote Portal on this resolution: HUGE SUCCESS.
2. To continue and accelerate my writing. I made some progress in 2007 but not nearly enough. I am optimistic that 2008 will be better. I have been more productive this year and will meet my relatively modest goals, so I'll be aiming higher in 2009. The Lunch Gnome, Cervidae and at least one more short story will be among my completed works this year, with The Ferry (a short novel) and at least one other short story getting done by year's end or shortly after. I owe a big part of my success here to the bunny who created a site for us to challenge and prod each other to write more, write better and just plain WRITE (http://write.jckrbbt.com/).
3. To complete one map in UT3. It's a tradition, I have to do this. CTF-Hallway3, here we come! Fail. We'll see if the mysterious "expansion" for this game inspires me, but I'm not hopeful.
4. To be more patient, tolerant and all that good junk. I'd have to check with everyone else on this but I like to think I've at least not gotten more impatient. :P
For 2009:
1. Write more! Finish The Ferry and write at least one complete short story per month. Start work on my next novel and look into getting published.
2. Find more fulfilling work.
3. Exercise more.
4. Nooky.
And that's about it. How about youse?
