As has been pointed out by others, we have gotten a wee bit past the summer hiatus and still no Smackdowns. To quote a typical Internet forum-goer, "WTFOMGBBQ???"

Well, here's a chance to vote on the current plausible choices. Straight majority wins, even if only one person votes. So vote!

Oh, multiple choices are allowed if you can't decide. I hope this doesn't screw it all up. :bg:

I was gong to write in BF2, but I realize there might be a few issues trying it.

I think Tai checkmarked all of them. When I voted, everything was tied. >:(

I don't like playing favorites ;) Looking back on it, I shoulda voted for HL2 and Counter-strike, so that I don't have to reinstall UT2k4

HL2DM and CS:S are probably the top two contenders anyway, but UT2004 has a big advantage in the number of free mods that are available to make it more than just a shooter.

I would at least be willing to pick up battlefield 2 if we agree we are going to play it a while as a group. Some of my work friends just got into it anyway.

That said my vote was for UT2004. We haven't played it in so long it would feel like a new game to me. :) Plus I'm sure we can find new maps and mods at this point.

Taking my lousy PvP skills in WoW as an indicator, I would spend any of these smackdowns 95% of the time dead without having fired a single shot. Moreover, I do not own any of the games under discussion. But I voted anyway. Just because I could.

Figured I'd throw this out there too. What about Call of Duty 2? It supposedly has CTF, Search & Destroy, and Team Deathmatch modes. I have not played it, but Bridude seems to like it alot.

There are three essential criteria for a good Smackdown game:

1. It must be one that a lot of us have.
2. It must be suitable for groups of 6-8 players.
3. It must have a flexible admin setup to facilitate the games.

Battlefield 2 fails mostly on #2. It is meant to be a large scale game. We average 8 players per Smackdown, which would make for a poor BF2 experience, IMO.

Call of Duty 2 or any other new game fails on #1. I haven't seen any kind of mass Martian move (or MMM) toward any new game. Some have CoD2, some have Quake 4, one or two may have FEAR. Not enough people have any of these games to make them viable.

UT2004 is older now but most of us have it. Anyone who has HL2 (most of us) has access to HL2DM and CS: source, so they are viable options, too.

I'm more than ready to try new games, but we'd need at least 6-8 to have them first.

I agree with your breakdown, and am good for all 3 :)

14 votes and here are the results:

Counter-Strike: Source 6
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch 7
UT2004 5
Another game 4

Look for the HL2DM Smackdown announcement before the end of the month. Be sure to update Steam and junk.

Well, I see that HL2DM and CS: Source are now tied at seven each. I hate you people! HATE! :bawl:

One other thing:

Smackdowns have traditionally started at 7 p.m. Pacific/10 p.m. Eastern. Would anyone like the start time bumped up earlier, like to 6/9 p.m.?

Tai

I would appreciate an earlier start :)

earlier starts work for me. It's more an issue for the west coast types, tho.

The only west coast people are myself, Budly and Long "I register, I read, I NEVER POST" branch.
