A friend of my girlfriend's is getting married in Lima (mmm, beans), and we'll be there for a week.
I have my passport, and am in the middle of a 4-dose typhoid vaccine (oral, thank goodness). I just got my first of two preventative Hep A and B shots, so I think I'm all ready.
Luckily, we're visiting the two areas where all tourists go -- Lima and Machu Picchu -- which are not infected with Malaria or Yellow Fever. That's about $300 in vaccines saved right there.
Anybody here ever been to Peru? Should I tape my cash to my clothing to ward off robbers?

I'd at least get a money belt you can wear under your clothing and recommend your girlfriend skip the pocketbook (or at least one that is worn across the body rather than just a shoulder strap).
Looks like aside from being robbed, you're pretty safe though.

Agree with this. Enjoy the sights! :) I often find it useful to read up on a country before travelling there. We use the Rough Guides (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1858285364/002-9939898-4611232?v=glance&n=283155&v=glance) and Lonely Planet (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0864423322/002-9939898-4611232?v=glance&n=283155&v=glance) books mostly when we travel.
PS. If you see anything that might help me in my civ war against the Incas, please take notes!

I think "being born in the 20th century" is your greatest weaon.
And yeah, I'm planning to buy a money belt of some kind. I may even put fake cards and bills in my normal wallet, just in case I'm robbed, I'll have something to give up. :D Then again, that may get me shot. :)
Luckily, the lady at the travel clinic gave us a LOT of information (40 pages) on Peru and what we should be wary of there.

Oddly enough my wife and I were at a presentation last Friday from people who regularly visit Peru. 8 more people are going in Dec/Jan and those people had to get shots for yellow fever. I didn't realize that shots were so expensive! (I get all of my shots for free courtesy of Uncle Sam).
Anyhow, good luck. Don't come back sick or dead, please.

I'll try not to come back dead. Sick, that's a possibility.
So far, I've spent $265 on vaccines - typhoid tablets and a combo HepA/HepB shot, with another $100 shot to follow on Dec 5th. The Yellow Fever and Malaria shots would have cost a couple hundred more.
We also have subscriptions for altitude sickness and traveler's diarrhea medicine (I'm hoping we won't need those).

I recommend not taping your cash onto the outside of your clothing.
Other than that, stay out of the way of people trying to topple the government in a coup. They're always having coups in these countries, aren't they? I think I saw that on the TV.

But I figured taping it to my clothing would show the robbers that I was tough and was just itching for a fight.

Yeah, some of the information we got in the travel clinic stuff was about the state of the government, and why it's not a good idea to yell "viva la revolution!".

Our employees go there a lot, as well as Brazil and Venezuala. The big thing I heard from one guy is to make sure you check your hotel room out before you bunk down, to make sure that robbers are not hidden in the closet or bathrooms. Also, don't take a taxi that's not officially licensed or endorsed by the hotel/airport/etc. The rest is common travel prep stuff, really.

You got any problem with the Inka's?

Only the ones that wear big feather headdresses and go around demanding I give them grapes. Then again, if you wanted to try that, I might make an exception ;)

What happens if you do find a robber hidden in the bathroom or closet?

I think this is what you do, in order:
1 - Find robber in closet
2 - Urinate on self
3 - Get robbed
4 - Cry

When in trouble or in doubt, run around, scream and shout!

I'll feed ya grapes!
And as far as robbers; you're more likely to be talked out of your money than robbed.
This might be obvious, but don't drink the local water. Sealed bottled water only.

as long as he's gonna rob you anyhow, I'd try to get most of the urine on him instead of yourself.
It would be a moral victory.

Hmmm, that actually sounds very intriguing. I might just try it out, especially if Medic helps with the grape feeding. Sam could bring the required headdress back from his trip as a souvenir. Would you mind, though, fermenting the grapes first into something that contains alcohol? :bg:

I think wine should be called "grapeahol" instead.

I second this motion, and of course have no problem fermenting it for you first Inka :)

Sweet! Grape stomping party!
If you use raisins, is the wine pre-aged?
