Do not buy GRID unless you have a fucking gamepad. Would probably be a fun game if I could fucking STEER the goddamn car. The worst keyboard steering EVAR, and I've played a lot of racing games with a kb. Never had this kind of problem handling the damn car. At least you still get money if you finish the race.

The thing that pisses me off the most though is no replay! WTH? Awesome physics and crashes in this game and you can't even enjoy it! There is an instant replay feature, but it's only for a few seconds and you have to use it during the race. You actually have to stop racing to watch an instant replay. Once the race ends there are no options to watch anything. A completely idiotic decision to remove a racing game staple.

So serious buyer's remorse going on over here. =(

Dude, you're really strange for playing a racing game with a keyboard and even more strange for complaining about it. :)

I've played every NFS game, Flatout2, Carmaggedon, 1nsane and a few others using the kb with few problems. It's not that difficult.

GRID is ridiculous. Control is a little better when using manual shifting. At least then you can shift up to 2nd or 3rd gear to prevent that fucking 1st gear full power spinout when you're forced to slow for a hairpin turn or you drifted offtrack. That is fucking infuriating.

I'm reading that the xbox 360 pad is a pretty good controller for the pc, so I'll probably end up buying one in a few weeks. Until then, I'm gonna have to stop playing this game. Just making me angry right now. =(

I played GTA3 and Vice City on the PC without any problems. Not racing games, exactly, but you do a whole lot of that drivin' business and it worked fairly well with the keyboard. You don't get the same fancy analog control you would with a gamepad (assuming the pad supported analog control on the PC game to begin with) but it's easy enough to adapt to.

Well, yeah, but "easy to adapt to" and "preferable" aren't always the same. ;) I get you're used to using the keyboard for racing, but you gotta understand these games aren't typically designed with keyboard in mind as the primary control peripheral so finding one that isn't so good when controlled that way isn't surprising. I'd be surprised if they even put any effort into testing how well it plays with a keyboard other than to see that it works. If you're a fan of racing games, you really need a gamepad or wheel. Even a cheap pad would be better.

And yeah, the 360 pad is really good on the PC. I don't even have the Windows version, just the straight wired one that came with my 360. Other than the directional pad being poopy for fighting games, it's a fantastic controller. I'd really recommend getting one and not giving up on GRID because it's an excellent game.

I'll stop there, else JR come in and lay the smack down because I disagreed with something. :o

Disagreeing with Reaver isn't being critical, it's a mathematical certainty. :)

Also, yes. The 360 controller for the PC is the best gamepad available for the platform.

Well, I got controller. Now I don't know if it's just because the analog sticks are new and stiff, but the steering is almost as bad as the keyboard. I can take corners a lot better. Making any little adjustments with the stick and the fucker changes lanes. It's really bad at high speeds.

I can't make the analog input any less sensitive in game. I don't know if I can fiddle with the sensitivity in the windows game controllers options. I'm getting close to just writing this game off as a pos. =(

McTopic contrib: I hate stupid store web sites that tell you everything about the store except what the fucking days and hours of operation are. So one might think that the store would be open on a weekday during early afternoon hours, but they would be wrong!

Try the pad instead of the sticks. In some racing games I do much better using the directional pad than I do the stick and GRID is one of them. And seriously, I know you like racing games nearly as much as I do and GRID is one of the better ones to come out in the past few years. The controls did take me a bit of getting used to and part of the issue is that the cars in each of the three types (drift, street, and circuit) feel way different from each other. It may just not be your thing, but it's seriously worth playing if you can figure out the controller issues you're having.

Yeah, I tried the dpad as a last resort before I went to bed and it does control much better than the stick. Still need to tweak the optimal button config. But I was able to get around a few of the tracks without crashing once. I still came in dead last, but it was a faster dead last. =)

I really miss having a race replay. Had some sweet stuff happen a few times last night. I'm confused as to why they don't have them. It detracts from my enjoyment of the game.

There is a race replay. It's an option given after every race. The game looks so fantastic overall, but the crashes are just awesome. They'd be silly not to include replays. The only thing is you can't save them.

Huh? Every time I finish a race, all I get is my standing (12th or worse, if more cars were racing =p), then it fades to a leader board that says "continue" at the bottom. I've never seen a replay option...

Guess I'll fire it up and check again.

*edit: All I get when I finish a race is continue or restart race. No playback options.

Maybe you're skipping past it or maybe it's some weird option that can be turned off. I know for certain it's there, though, because I've used it on multiple occasions.

The only replay thing I can do is during the race with the instant replay. But that's only the last few seconds that have elapsed. Once I cross the finish line I can't even view that.

When you get a chance, can you double check or post a screen showing where the heck it should be?

Yeah, I'll look when I get home.

maybe this is an idiotic question, but hell.. it's me, so i'll ask.

if you play racing games and enjoy them so much, why aren't you using a wheel and pedals as your controller?

i love spaceflight and flight combat sims, so i get an X52 flightstick.. sounds like you ought to be happier with a wheel.

Reaver, for me after a race it automatically starts a replay and I have to hit a button to exit out of it. It may be a setting that can be turned off, but it starts playing back the replay after every race.

Reaver

Yeah, I was looking all over the forums for something about this. Apparently, if you don't have 2 gigs free space on drive C, it won't do replays.

Why the hell it doesn't use the fucking drive I have GRID installed on, I don't know. Maybe I can redirect the game to use the F: drive.

Yeah, that's weird.

So I got the replays to work.

I just deleted GRID. I'm just getting seriously angry at the damn control. Need to take a break from this game and maybe try it again later.

I kind of picture you deleting games after regular play sessions then re-installing them the next time just as the normal way of doing things.
