I went on vacation last week to the lovely Lake Pickerel (http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCC&cp=45.400454~-88.901539&style=h&lvl=16&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1) in Northern Wisconsin. We stayed in a rented cabin (4 bedroom, 1 bath and a finished walk-out basement that we didn't even use) that was right on the lake. We drove 7-8 minutes a day to the public beach which is on a neighboring lake that doesn't even show up on most maps. We walked and biked up and down Lake Pickerel road and picked wild raspberries which we ate atop pancakes in the morning. We threw a tennis ball repeatedly off the dock for hours allowing my Labrador to retrieve it in what eventually became a state of canine pseudo-orgasmic exhaustion. We made campfires and had to whittle sticks down for marshmellow toasting for our smores.
No computers, limited cell phone usage (only to let relatives know how to find us when they came up to visit) only 3 stations come in on the TV and 2 of them barely so.
I read.... books, the paper kind.
We basically did nothing for a week and I loved every minute of it. We're renting the same place next year.
