Hello.

This coming Sunday, August 17th, I'm going to fire up the server at the usual SD time (9 p.m. Eastern) for a few rounds of CoD4 to see how it runs. I invite as many peoples as possible to help shake things down. You will need to be running patch 1.7. Server and Vent IPs are in the private forum as usual.

Anyone familiar with CoD4 is welcome to suggest maps or gametypes to try out.

Hope to see youse there.

I'll be here about 6:30 pm pst.

Killhouse and Wetworks is good for small teams. Shipment sucks.

Chinatown might be kinda tough for people that haven't played this game much or at all.

I'd suggest enabling killcam on the server so people can learn where the common killzones and hiding spots are in the maps. There are a lot of nooks and crannies in most cod4 maps.

The killcam appears to be on by default. I was able to see through it the 4 or 500 times Sam killed me during the test.

I will not be there - we start our vacation on Sunday (plus, I don't own the game).

Plus you suck!!!

I thought Sundays weren't open for you anymore, anyway.

I have a cpr/defib class until 1900 hrs. If youse are still on I will find you.

Reaver

What do you need a cpr/defib class for? That stuff is easy. You just pump the chest 20 times for every 1 breath, or keep upping the juice on the paddles until the victim comes back to life.

Class dismissed! See you Sunday!

Cause the mean lady with the yardstick will whack my peepee if I don't cross the t's and dot the i's before I do cpr for the
x hundredth time for really.

I was under the impression that recent studies had shown that one part of CPR (I think it was the chest pumps, but I forget) was either detrimental or at the very least not useful in resuscitation. I may have to hunt this down on google.

Last I heard, they upped the chest compressions and reduced the breaths so more (civilian) people will be less hesitant to render aid due to the ick factor. The increased circulation keeps the brain better oxygenated than when you keep stopping to give breaths.

That's how I understand it, anyway.

Nothing has changed for professionals.

Look in the private forum. We haven't used Fitty's Vent since The Situation™.

And where do I find the setup for a private server? I can't seem to find the option anywhere. Is it in multiplayer or single player?

Creole Ned

The easiest way to find the server (it will be up shortly) is to add the IP as a favorite.

But it should show up if you do a search for Internet servers and set the Gametype to "All", listed as Ned's CoD Donut.

Also remember to enter the password before joining the server (password is entered at the bottom of the browser screen).

Reaver

To join with the IP, go to "Join game", then hit the "~" key. Type "/connect", space and then the ip. Hit enter.

For pw, look at the bottom where it says "server info", you'll see "password" next to that. Type in the password and hit "ok". If you try to join before entering password, you'll get a "this is a low ping server" error.

Also, it was fun tonight. Not used to playing with a 230 ping, but it was cool. I have to go to salsa practice now. =(

Creole Ned

Not sure why your ping was so high, especially since you're west coast. I'll see what I can do to massage the server settings a bit more for maximum smoothness.

The game is a lot of fun, though. :)

If not for his connection problems, I think Budly would've won every round. I enjoyed the few times I killed him, though, because it meant I got to use his fancy guns.

Creole Ned

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was using tactical nukes, as someone mentioned. Not sure why he was having the connection problems. That, along with Reaver's higher ping, suggest there may have been something up with the backbone along the west coast.

I need to figure out some better controls so I move from "lol pincushion" to "only dead most of the time". Still, I wasn't too bad for my first time and not really knowing how to approach things. Can anyone explain what sort of flexibility "create a class" gives you?

Creole Ned

Also, was anyone using the Steam version of the game?

Reaver

I am using the steam version.

Class creation comes into play a after you start getting unlockables. I don't remember what perks are available right away, but later you can get things like an added grip to steady your MG fire(RPD!), ability to run for longer distance, increased health, faster reloading and even a UAV jammer to mask you from the hud, so you'll only appear if you fire a non silenced weapon.

It is pretty well balanced and keeps things interesting and lets you customize to your playing style. My primary loadout is an RPD with grip, Deeper Impact perk (bullets can penetrate solid walls), Stopping Power perk and a smoke grenade. One of my fun loadouts is a shotgun with 3x frags perk, UAV jammer, and Extreme Conditioning. It's exciting to sneak up on someone and shoot them point blank in the face or do a silent kill with the knife.
