Hey Guys, what do you think about playing Star Wars Battlefront II? It comes out Nov 1st and looks good. The first one wasn't that great but it looks like they made some great improvements. I haven't seen many other good games coming out this year that would be SD worthy.

They'd have to something very magical to make it worth my while. The first one was a steaming pile of donkey shit, and the demo (there'd have to be one for me to even consider #2) would have to be amazing in its own right.

Yeah, I'd only consider it with a demo. Star Wars games have a history of sucking, and I'd rather know what I'm getting myself into.

That said, I'm really in need of a new game.

I'm willing to try anything if it comes recommended :)

Well the good news is there is a demo coming out Tuesday. The bad news is it won't be for download. The 2 level demo is coming out on the Star Wars III DVD. I have the movie coming from Netflix but I'm not sure if I will get the second DVD with the demo.

Fileplanet users can indeed demo it: http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/battlefront2/swbf2_home.aspx

It is supposedly REALLY bad. One comment from the Quarter to Three board includes:

"I thought they couldn't do worse than Battlefront. I was clearly wrong.

This game is so bad, it hurts. It's like they took everything that was good about Battlefront, got rid of that, then took everything that was bad about it and made it worse."

Damn.

Damn, that's bad.

Battlefront is one of the few FPS'ers I own. I liked it at first untill I realized that the AI is mind-numbingly stupid. Every board inevitably becomes a shooting gallery to see if you can kill faster than they can kill off your support staff. That I might have forgiven if the vehicles were fun to drive. Most aren't.

If they had purchased the rights to put starwars weapons and costumes on the UT2004 engine, I would buy 3 copies.

The pre-release reviews I have seen so far do seem to be bad. So far from what I have played of the game I have liked it. I'll be trying out multi-player tonight though on the X-box.

The demo that comes with the Episode III DVD is for Xbox only. I was disappointed by that, to say the least. THe idea of a Battlefield game set in the Star Wars universe appeals to me like you wouldn't believe, but I'm holding off getting it until I see the reviews, plus I'm back playing Battlefield 2 and WoW.

Postal, JR... if you are really looking for new games that are good, I promise you Battlefield 2 is. And if you can't afford that, come back to WoW... it costs more in the long run, but it's less than half the price of a new game month to month. :)

I'm likely to come back soon. I may have been bored with WoW, but I'm more bored with having no games to play every night and never talking to you guys except during work in IRC.

I certainly wouldn't ever want to play that copy of Dungeon Siege 2 I bought back in August. Of 1867. Nope!

Up to 30. Four levels in an hour last night. I'll try to play more tonight to get up to the magical 40.

I don't even know what pogo is talking about.

In any case, I'm out as far as DS2 goes. I bought the game in August and have yet to play a minute of it because I bought it for the co-op. I have tons of space on my HD so it's no big deal to leave it there. I'm not going to get huffy or anything but it's obvious that we simply can't or won't commit to a time to play. That's fine. I'll know to wait before buying again. Silly me!

Ned, I was directly referencing a communication between JR and I about DS2, so as he was the poster immediately before me and initiated a subject discussion on DS2, I informed him of the status of the situation as I saw fit. Either JR knows what I am referencing, or he forgot.

Further, our waiting for DS2 was largely due to Q (who now has a new excuse...a kid! How original!), so, why don't we set time/place/fun for DS2? Getting sarcastic and aggressive doesn't help us get into the game any faster. I enjoyed the heck out of DS1 with you and Q, so I imagine the same will hold true with you and JR, so I'll try to get on mIRC after work tomorrow and we can hash out the details.

pogo, I am not getting sarcastic, it is an innate part of me, like my fabulous hair.

Your comment did not make sense to me because you talked about getting to level 40. I haven't even played the game, ergo I would have assumed we'd be starting a new game, so that kind of threw me there.

Anyhoo, I'm not being aggressive. I'm not deleting posts or kicking anyone out of the group, am I? :P I'm just saying I bought the game three months ago and still haven't played. Yes, Q has a great excuse with the baby letter and all. I wouldn't expect him to play unless he cuts a deal with his wife to get some guaranteed time. If we all happen to be available one night and everyone wants to start a new game, I'm in. I'm just saying I'm not going to try to corral everyone together at this point. It's just a game, it's not a big deal.

Still waiting for Postal's assessment on Battlefront II's multiplayer, too. ;)

Ned, Pogo and I had worked out last week that we were gonna play DS2 last night. I had asked if he thought he could hit level 40 by then so he and I could play Veteran lavel instead of Novice. I hopped on IRC and Vent with every intent of playing DS2 (I swear!!) Somehow, discussion veered to WoW...

and next thing I knew, I woke up in a puddle of my own vomit, it was 12:30 am, keyboard and mouse in hand, and I was walking into a wall in Ironforge. I think Pogo slipped a mickey into my morning glory dew. Someone, probably under duress (so that person can't be convicted in a court of law) resubscribed me to WoW.

I'm still up for DS2 and can pretty much play at a moment's notice. If we were to play a trio with you, Pogo, and myself, we'd obviously start level 1 characters. I just figured if it was gonna be me and Pogo only, level 40 was the way to go.

Ned, we all know that you are a furry little kitten in real life, and that the worst aggression to expect from you is to post a :spank: smilie somewhere. But seriously, if my sheer ignorance kept me from appreciating your benevolently dictatorial board moderation style in the past, I can assure you that the HW drama has made me a changed woman. :yay:
