View Full Version : Tai in Wisconsin
Hey, I bought a ticket to Milwaukee last night. I arrive noonish on Sat May 3rd, and fly back out at 4ish on Sunday May 4th. Anyone want to get together for some drinks?
I have not booked a hotel room yet, but can easily do so if no one has a floor for me to crash on. Worst case scenaraio and no one is around that weekend, I'll just eat the ticket price - it was only $160 round trip. (Probably on one of those planes with all the cracks or something.)
Anyone up for stuff?

I'll have to call down to the Milwaukee Crowd to find out what they want, but I can talk my wife into letting me go (or dropping the kids off at a Grandparent's house and bringing her along).
Pencil me in. Milwaukee is about an hour and a half from where I live.

My house is filthy, and I'll have to talk to the wife, but we have a spare room. Plus I needed an excuse to hit Haufbrau again, and the Landmark's 48 tap bears. Additionally, I haven't seen Rat since my last trip to Haufbrau, and I miss him.

I spoke to my attorney and got the go-ahead. You are now booked to stay at Casa Del Conejo (my house).
I have to work for a bit on Saturday night, but anyplace with wifi or near internet access will work. My friend Ryan lives right near The Landmark Inn, and would probably be out with us anyhow.
I'll also try to jigger a way to automate the process, so I can manage it remotely.
You need a ride to/from the airport?
Nice, I'll bring flowers or chocolate or something. :) And a clean set of clothes.
Is a ride a hassle? I know nothing about the city or the airport or anything, but I don't mind renting a car as long as I don't have to drive it once I start drinking. :)

As a long time designated driver (who may or may not be staying overnight anyway) I'll volunteer. That just means I'll have to take it easy and stop 2-3 hours before last call.
Milwaukee itself is fairly easy to get around if you have a map (which I will) because it's kind of a bitch if you don't know your way around (which I don't). I may borrow a GPS from work.
What time are you flying in? I have a small SUV which seats 4 quite comfortably and 6 if we're drunk. I'll call Orion and/or Rat tonight. I'll need to find out if this is going to be co-ed ASAP so I can line up childcare if needed.

I can pick you up and return you to the airport, and don't mind driving when you're in town. If this'll be your home base, that'll probably be easiest.

Cool, that helps prevent Kermit from getting lost too. :bg: I am excited!

I read the date as THIS weekend.
That changes two things:
1) The house is no longer filthy. Lori cleaned when I told her you were coming tomorrow.
2) I don't work that weekend.
Lori cleaned when I told her you were coming tomorrow.
Well, now I REALLY have to bring flowers or something. :p You might want to to!

I am so m-er-efin in. One of you cats has to tell me where you're going to be. If you are avoiding me on purpose, let me know so I can be sure to hide in my basement that weekend.
also, as I am midway between JR's place and das airport, I also am willing to pickup-dropoff where needed.
Well I mostly work weekends (10-10 Sat and Sun), but give me a general location and a cell link up (PM me) and I will have to catch up with yas. At worst case scenario I can catch up after 10... JR or O. PM me your cell.

Still working on the final plans for who gets the kids while we're there, but my wife is down with the whole plan and we're both looking forward to it.
Are there any official™ plans yet as to what were going to do? I'm good for just about anything that doesn't involve raw fish or require a passport.

I'm thinking Haufbrau for sure at the Old German Beer Hall. I was going to suggest the Landmark Inn, but they relocated and went from 40+ tap beers to 6. There are a few upscale bars that serve rare imported beers, but they aren't really hang-out-get-drunk bars, and the bottles are $6 to $12 each...
Beyond that, we can entertain at the house. I can make sure the beer fridge is well-stocked prior, and we have plenty of spare rooms and couches.
I suppose I should see if I can find one of those prepaid cell phones to bring with me.

What kind of anachronistic monstrosity doesn't have a cell phone?
Me. I've managed without one quite well and really don't want one. :)

Ok, I've got JR and Orion's cellphone numbers, I think we're going to drop off the kids, grab a GPS and we'll call you when we leave the Valley so you can give us the final location of where to meet you when we hit Milwaukee. From there? Whatever is good. We're just ready to enjoy an evening without the kids were we can drink adult beverages and relax.

and play tf2f!
i don't know what the f is for.
I am back from our road trip to CT and will read the email and rejoice in the funnness ahead. :)
Something to consider:
"Maibock" beer was to save the city of Munich. When the Swedish army occupied the town in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War, they only refrained from plundering and burning once they had been paid tribute of 344 pails of Maibock beer brewed in the Hofbräuhaus brewery.
Maybe I can demand 10 pails for not looting Milwaukee?
Orion

dude, go ahead and loot it. you won't get much.
Yay, excitement building! We going anywhere fancy? (ie, should I bring slacks, or just jeans?) What's the airport like, you want to pick a spot to meet, or should I just call from the nearest bank of pay phones?

How come you have no internet? Did you try to change your router settings for DMZ?
No, Verizon has been down since tuesday. They just fixed it about 20 minutes ago supposedly. (they said the surge protector wasn't T1 grade on some line or other, personally I think they are incompetant and full of shit).

It was flipping hot in there. And Dark. And the liter of beer made me feel bloated. But the beer was yummy tasting, Tai was loads of fun, and the next bar we hit was much cooler. Temperature wise. More pictures to come.
Yeah, crazy hot and a fog of smoke. My clothes still reek. =P Shadowrat actually posted that from the bar using his phone and the magical internet. The other pictures using the flash are much clearer, I'll rehost them and perhaps take out one or two of the drunker ones.
I made it home safely and on schedule. =D I had such a wonderful time meeting everyone and seeing Shadowrat and wife again. Good crew you got up there. Beer too for that matter. ;)
You all put effort into making it such an enjoyable time, and I can't really say thanks enough, so I hope to be able to repay the hospitality any time you head to this edge of the country.
Cheers.
PS. Great sandwiches.
PPS. I am uncertain whether to attempt to watch Cloverfield again.
PPPS. The "beer" choice on Northwest Airlines is Bud, Miller Lite and Red Something.
PPPPS. Shit, I need some sleep. - til tomorrow :)

You tried watching cloverfield in your condition?! lol!
It was a great time. glad Kermit could come down, and orion could make an appearance.
I'm also glad you could see that while our weather sucks, our streets are teeming with hot chicks in school girl uniforms.
We tried the next morning yeah, talk about queasy.

I had a blast Saturday night. So much so, that it pretty much ruined my Sunday. I was sick until about 10pm. Watching the handy-cam effect in CLoverfield had me running upstairs to throw up. It's too bad, cause Lori says it was good.
Still, a great time. Thanks for coming up, Tai. You're welcome any time, and next time I promise lunch on Sunday.

You all look like such nice polite young men.
I guess it's true, the camera really does lie. :o
P.S. Tai looks like he's trying to hold something in in the first shot. If there isn't a story to go with that, please make one up, thanks!
Spider had just ripped apart a ferret behind the camera. Yar.

Gah! I emptied my memory stick tonight and apparently we forgot to take the camera into the bars.
I got only this (http://www.newcomputerguys.com/aj/temppics/tairatjrkerm.jpg).
oh sweet, that's a good one, I had forgotten we did that pose =P
I really wanted to make it. I was even going to have a light PM shift of 4 home visits which is pretty light.. Instead I took a unplanned leap over a patients cat who wanted to go home with me after a visit and wove itself through my legs as I was stepping down the stairs to my car. Using my "ninja like" grace I landed one footed on the stair just below the one I really intended to land on that held said kitty. With Jackie Chan like dexterity and a rehearsed stunt cat I might have pulled it off, but instead I landed with all my weight on my leading foot avoiding the cat but twisting my foot 90 degrees and fracturing what they called my 5th rt. metatarsal bone (effectively know as the long bone that connects to the pinky toe). I gimped myself the rest of the way to my car. I happened to have a ace wrap in my trunk (occupational bonus of being a Visit RN). One visit to ER, 6 x-rays, and an PA interview of the situation and I got the rest of the day off with a consolation prizes of a pair of crutches, a CAM boot, and 2 scripts for pain meds (that could not be filled as the pharmacy had closed by the time I got out of the ER and to the Pharmacy). To sweeten the ER thing, It took 1 hr to be seen as a "sprained ankle" did not get high priority. And even when at the ER not one PA or RN offered a single pain med even after seeing the x-ray and and bruised foot. So OTC Extra strength Excedrin and Advil became my part time new friends for the rest of the day.
Sorry I missed out on the fun Tai.
Note: Good news for any cat lovers. No cat was injured in the making of this event.

But don't be fooled! I weigh 200lbs!
I'd also like to point out that my pots and pans are hung at a very comfortable height. At least it's a comfortable height for hobbits.
