View Full Version : Suggestions for naming the new "casual" guild on Arthas

As per the other thread, let's see some suggestions for the name of the new casual-oriented guild that will be the home of casual-oriented players on Arthas for the purposes of casual-oriented WoW gaming.

I'm with stupid.

Of course it's better with a guild leader named stupid.

I got this idea when I saw a horde rogue named stuped and it stuck.

I also like The People's Judean Front.

damnit! I didn't see this thread, so I have officially broken the unwirtten rule and put a suggestion in the other one.

on with my post!

<Quality Not Quaranteed>
<And His Amazing Friends>

I'd also suggest looking up the thread that ended in Martian Cartel when QB died. There was a lot of funny stuff in there.

The Muligans (golf term for do over)

Creole Ned

After conferring with Naming Expert Circuit, I believe I have come up with part of the name. Let me explain.

The idea behind the name suggestion below is to give the appearance of meaning something when it really doesn't mean anything at all.

The first part is "Guardians of..." This has a sturdy high fantasy flavor that would work well in WoW.

The next part will be something that is not typically guarded, adding a bit of whimsy.

My initial suggestion to get the ball rolling is Guardians of Noon. This sounds like it means something until you think about how one guards noon. Does it mean standing by clocks at 12:00 with swords out? Keeping watch over someone's lunch until safely consumed? Was the group formed at noon? Answer: it means nothing but sounds like it might!

Let's see a few suggestions along this line. Try to keep the names brief. No Guardians of Eternal Fanciness and Cucumber Sandwiches, please.

If anyone suggests Guardians of Chuck Norris, they will be ejected into space.

Circuit
02-06-2008, 12:36 AM
I was going to suggest Guardians of Eternal Fanciness since being fancy forever is something I can really get behind. :(

Creole Ned
02-06-2008, 12:43 AM
Guardians of Eternal Fanciness is not too long. If you add the cucumber sandwiches it becomes too long (if more delicious).

Creole Ned

Maybe I'll call YOU Martian Cartel 2.0!

I just think a new name would be better. I also never really liked the name Quirky Pandas, so you'd probably have to slip something into my drink to convince me to go with it.

Paladin
02-06-2008, 05:51 PM
I don't know. Guardians of Noon sounds kind of plain. Now Guardians of Midnight is something I could get behind. Or Guardians of A Quarter Past Three, although that may exceed Ned's name limit. Maybe Guardians of the Universe? How would one guard a universe, and just how big of a flashlight would you have to carry to do the job properly? (Oops, Wikipedia says DC Comics has used that one already).

Guardians of Midnight get's my vote. After, midnight is so much cooler than noon.

Patton. I like the killer rabbit.

Have you seen the fuzzy killer rabbit slippers?

Hmmm... Fuzzy Slippers. That'd be whimsical.

A few more, both randomly generated and otherwise:

Guardians of Vague Intent

I am currently in the not paying for any online games mode right now. LotR is paid for for life so thats casual.

I cant go into my WoW gaming at the moment as that sort of thing is frowned upon in these forums I believe.

Falhawk
02-08-2008, 12:34 PM
how'd you get LOTR for life?

Creole Ned
02-08-2008, 12:59 PM
They have a one-time fee you can pay for lifetime membership. It was initially offered at $200. You can still get it now but it's $300. If you play more than 20 months, it pays for itself.

Harka, I can't imagine anything you'd have to say that would be verboten here. I'm guessing your WoW characters are on some other server, though, just like in every MMO you play. :bg:

As for number of casuals active now? My guess is probably 4 or 5, depending on how you define "casual".

Dg3Nr8
02-08-2008, 02:14 PM

Dear Chris,

Congratulations, you've been selected to receive the World of Warcraft 14-Day Trial Disc as a free gift from GameFly, Blizzard and Intel. You don't need to do anything else - we'll send your free trial disc to you automatically. The disc should arrive within two to four weeks. If you're already playing WoW, give your free trial disc to a friend!

Happy gaming!

Here is the (somewhat) short list. If anyone strongly objects to one or more of these names, speak now or speak later when it won't matter!

Creole Ned
02-12-2008, 12:06 AM

We now need nine signatures to wrap this sucker up.

Patton
02-13-2008, 05:12 AM
Grab me if you want me to sign on with an alt to help sign the charter.

I'm usually playing Kurathis or Kyrandis.

Also, I'm offering protection to everyone with Kurathis for the low low fee of nothing. Kerm, JR, and I were doing some quests in Hinterlands and a 66 Mage killed us. That is why I camped Kurathis there, and that is why I went on a murderous rampage. My goal was to declare to the Horde that the Hinterlands is "my house."

I think I accomplished that goal.

Or pissed them all off.

Playing a Rogue seriously warps your views on world PvP.

Also, never flee from a Druid, you'll only die tired.

Creole Ned
02-13-2008, 08:56 AM
I'll pop on with Pretzel over the next few nights. I'd suggest anyone interested in signing the charter add me to your friends list and pester me if you see me casting about. Currently logged in at Shattrath City, so I can get to most places fairly easily.

If and when we get enough signatures we'll move on to getting a permanent leader for the guild.

Kermit
02-13-2008, 10:39 AM
In theory since we're signing casuals, this should be almost impossible to pull off, but practically I think there will be enough people who's mains are in PT that can have alts sign a charter that we should be able to get it done pretty quickly.

In non-new guild news, thanks to Patton and JR for putting up with my dumb ass last night as well as to Pogo for the speedy run through for the hammer. If anyone sees me on and wants to run ZF, now is the time.

/me petitions Blizzard to add a notes section to the friends list

Patton
02-13-2008, 11:53 AM
Actually, they ARE adding a notes section to the friends list in the next patch. Along with a bunch of other super awesome content.

jackrabbit
02-13-2008, 12:30 PM
I look at it this way: if we didn't do the chicken quest a second time, we never would have been witness to Patton's psychological breakdown and eventual, and long-term homicidal rampage. I count myself among the lucky to have witnessed it first hand, and not just left to hear the legend retold around campfires.

jackrabbit

He was holding that pacifier in a menacing way.

Also, back on topicness, I would be very interested in designing the tabard for Vague Intent, but after that would surrender the reigns of leadershipery. I have no interest in investing actual effort into guild management because I am way too involved in scooping epics for my rogue.

My recommendation would be to create four or five trusted (read: NOT Falhawk) officers that are on regularly, give them the power of inviting, and make the Guild Leader a largely ceremonial role. Like the Queen of England, or being a husband.

Kermit
02-13-2008, 04:06 PM
I would second both JR's tabard creation and the other points, but I'm not allowed to anymore.

Creole Ned
02-13-2008, 07:52 PM
Come to think of it, hanging around in-game with a character I'm not really playing is rather boring. Maybe we could arrange a time to try to get as many to sign the charter as possible and take it from there?

jackrabbit

I was thinking the same thing, Ned. I haven't seen anyone from TMC on, except Kermit, in three days at least. But unless I'm on with a TMC character, they join the chat, join ventrilo, or are on my friends list, I'd never know.

Make sure if you do log in, you /join martian so that non-martian players can see you and arrange to swap characters/meet/sign the charter.

Kermit
02-14-2008, 05:46 AM
I can guarantee a time tonight to get on long enough to sign, but the weather will dictate if I have actual time to play or if I can get out of the house to go down to the gym. 8" of snow expected by suppertime.

Give me a time after 9:00 server time and I'll be there.

Seriously, I'd imagine in the worst case scenario, leadership would pass if the current leader quit the guild, likely to the first to join next with the highest rank. But that's speculation on my part, I don't really know and unless I missed it, the WoW site doesn't provide the nitty gritty on this.

I am looking now, though!

Creole Ned
02-14-2008, 01:18 PM
How do I remove myself from my guild?

If you wish to quit the guild you are currently in, you may do so by typing /gquit in the chat window. If you are the guild master, you will need to either assign a new guild master then /gquit or you can just /gdisband to dissolve the guild entirely.
This would suggest that it is indeed possible to assign someone else to be guild master/leader.

jackrabbit
02-14-2008, 01:43 PM
Leadership can be passed provided you drink a lot of water, have a high-fiber diet, and make regularly. You may experience some difficulty initially, but it will pass.
