Heather, he obviously can't do it via the forum because a ban automatically cuts off all access, including PMs, but I am usually idling in IRC and have multiple e-mail addresses (creolened@gmail.com is probably best).

Really, this isn't a power thing. I'm not trying to lord over anyone. If I was, I can guarantee it would not have taken eight years for the first ban to happen. :) Also note that the ban is for the forum only, not MC in general. pogo hasn't been kicked from the group. I respect all the work he's put into the WoW guild, I am dazzled (seriously) by his insane knowledge of the game. I admire him for braving Will Rock to try it out with me in co-op. I still have scars from the opening screen of that game. I remember having fun playing the Dungeon Siege expansion with him and Q. He was the dwarf that kept running ahead. :P

But in the end, I made a simple request, not a demand, a request and he chose to ignore it and try to shift the conversation to make himself look like a victim (of my tyranny, I guess) because he has a "dissenting opinion". Then he asked to be banned. Never ask to be banned!

It's not about power, just having a little respect for someone else on the Interweb. When I make a small criticism about WoW it's because I do that with ALL the games I play. Circuit and I could bitch about CoH for hours. I think many of the character faces in Oblivion (and EQ2) look freaky and ugly. I don't like the inconsistent performance in EQ2. I don't like tying races to classes in WoW. And on and on. But it seems every comment made about WoW becomes another example of how I "loathe" the game and why do I keep playing it, anyway? But I don't loathe the game. I don't care for some of the drama it has fostered, but I'd say that whatever game it was. It has nothing to do with WoW or its game mechanics.

But these are just words and pogo's mind is made up. What else can I do? All I asked was for him to stop peppering his posts with jabs specifically designed to raise my ire and he could not agree to that. I'm not going to ignore it. If that makes me petty or something, so be it, but I don't think my request was unreasonable.

But it's not like that at all. There was no perceived slight. Pogo took jabs at Ned every time he mentioned anything slightly negative about WoW. When Ned asked for it to stop (asked, not demanded), pogo's response was "ban me", so that's what happened. Maybe most people would shrug it off and ignore it, but it clearly bothered Ned so it makes sense for him to ask that it stop in what is essentially his house. It has nothing to do with any sort of power trip he has on a stupid gaming forum.

And don't think I enjoy taking sides here. I do like pogo, but there are some things I dislike about him just as there are things he hates about me. This is one of those things. Ned's the type of person to put up with stuff for a very long time, but even he has his limits. Pogo knew those limits and pushed past them, similar to how Foe posted this thread to stir up shit because he knows Ned hates it :) . I can't say what I'd do if I were in Ned's position, though, so I won't comment on whether or not I think the ban was necessary. My problems with pogo typically end with a "Fuck off" in a PM and then we're fine the next time we talk. :)

My one and only opinion on the topic (like it matters) is that I do not like threads being erased. Locked is one thing, it is your house. But erasures just breed mistrust and more drama, and then eventually threads like this one that have to explain said erasure.

2 things: First, I do what I do in the background and it isn't public knowledge. I kindly ask that you edit that out. Second, I didn't make this thread with the sole intention of stirring shit up, though I think shit-stirring fucker would make an awesome forum title. I asked the question because I don't know what happend other than what I read in the posts leading up to Pogo challenging Ned to ban him. I wasn't suprised Ned answered the challange (well, a little bit), but I was suprised to find out Pogo was still banned. I personally think there's a small bit of double standard when Ned speaks ill of WoW on a consistent basis, yet went to General Quarters at someone doing to same about CoH. That statement might even prove to be false if I took the time to do any research, but it is my perception of things. I fully understand that Ned's fuse is gonna be shorter with Pogo, much the same way it is probably shorter with me, based on past friction. I just think it's sil.... I'm not gonna launch into a long winded post to say that Ned and I don't always see eye to eye. He knows it, I know it. The shit stirring comments are probably based on the my 'this will get deleted' remark. I surrender. It was as deliberate jab. Circ I like all of you, except Luci. I totally know that Pogo is a verbose asshole, and all of you should know that by now as well, since several of you have known him longer than me. As for the 'prodding/ jabs,'- one person's "jabs" are another person's jest.

Why is the communication one-sided? If Ned can unilaterally over-utilize authority granted by the politeness/donations of others, Pogo is supposed to be the one to search him out? Cutting off communication seems rather childish, given how everything is supposed to be "adult-like."

See, the thing is - when Ned criticizes a game he does it to criticize the game. Most of the time pogo criticizes CoH, he's blatantly taking jabs at Ned. This has been going on for a while and is pretty apparent to anyone who has been paying attention. If I'm understanding the situation correctly, this is what Ned got fed up with.

I have not read the thread that got Pogo banned in the first place, and I honestly don't care to. This thread here and my imagination are fully sufficient to give me the big picture.

I very much agree with Heather that Pogo can be (or is) a verbose Asshole. What irks me is that us "knowing that" (and yes, we sure do) seems to give him a carte blanche in many other Martians' eyes to be an asshole whenever, to whom ever and in whatever fashion he likes. Us knowing that he is like that seems to imply that we always have to accept it and even excuse him for it, no matter how much he hurts other people with his behavior. I am aware of three incidents in which this group of people had a major issue that split us into camps, and Pogo was one of of the major parties in each. Maybe, instead of blaming everybody else for being overly sensitive and just a bunch of passive-aggressive primadonnas, it's time that he took a hard look at whether his assholy trait is really such a worthy thing to have and defend?

Foe, you know I love you and I love playing with you. And I sympathize with your aversion to power-trips of forum masters. But in this case, I find my sympathies on Ned's side, no matter how hard I try to just feel indifferent about all this.
