Said to be set in the same time period as Knights of the Old Republic (4,000 years prior to the movies), this rumor posted on Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49557) states that the MMO BioWare is working on is based on Star Wars.
Good: BioWare makes pretty good RPGs
Iffy: They've never made an MMO before
But: Neither had Blizzard
Bad: LucasArts is widely blamed for turning Star Wars Galaxies into a train wreck (or Bantha fodder, if you prefer)
Worse: Recent purchase of BioWare by EA could mean cantinas will be carrying ads for Red Bull

This could rock.

It could also suck.
Guess which way I'm leaning? =)

That's a puzzler, Reaver!
I blame Sony, not LucasArts, for destroying SWG. You don't completely re-design your entire game a couple years after release.

Apparently it was LucasArts pushing for the changes, not Sony.

In my opinion, the problem with Star Wars Galaxies was that it didn't feel like Star Wars in the least. It felt like an MMO with Wookies and Boba Fett.
Bioware did a great job with the KOTOR games. They felt like Star Wars games, even though they were set thousands of years prior to the movies.
I think one of the big advantages of a project set in this time period is that it isn't inconcievable to see a thousand Jedi running around. I think it would be incredibly fun to do dungeon-type runs into an ancient Sith temple with 4 or 5 Jedi buddies that are all contributing something different to the group with their different force powers.

Anyway...
The closest I ever got to playing SWG was listening to Tick's tales. Its original conception -- a level-free sandbox environment -- is something I'd really be interested in trying now but yeah, for a Star Wars MMO, it was probably a bad fit. If BioWare is making a SW MMO, they'll neatly dodge the bullet SWG faced by (foolishly) setting the game in the time period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
It would also be nice to have another non-elf alternative. I like elves but sometimes, you know, you want something that is a bit more elf-free.

Hopefully you can be a droid. Or maybe you can only be a droid.

How are you supposed to land hot Twi'lek babes if you're a droid?

LucasArts and BioWare officially announce "interactive entertainment product". (http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=82285)
Basically an announcement of a coming announcement on some sort of game...possibly a Star Wars MMO.

Earlier I thought this really deserved a laugh. I am taking the time now to post it.
LAUGH, good one, I enjoyed that, thank you.
