Lookit them there dots. Boy howdy, I sure do love me some dots.
First off, you need to delete anything you currently have regarding MetaMap. All your folders in your addons folder, all your Saved Variables files.
Next, you need to download THIS version of metamap: http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=582149 which has a single file edited by our own Mario to fix some bugs regarding this guide.
After that, you need to download this file: http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=582143 You will need to right-click save-as that link [you wont, rehosted], otherwise it fucks up. I don't know why.
Take that file. Put it in your World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\MetaMapCVT folder
Log into WoW
Open your Map.
Click the "Options" button.
Click General Options/Help
Click the Modules tab
Check all those boxes(You probably don't have to, I just know sometimes one of these boxes fixes it and I don't know which)
Click on the Database tab.
Click on Import Modules
Click on "Import" under User Files.
Click on "Usernotes"
After that, your maps for almost every zone should be populated by dots and lines, detailing you on what to do. If they don't, repeat all of that. If they still don't, go to Options and click on "Show All" next to usernotes. If they still don't, turn off any mods that affect your map(like Cartographer) and see if it shows up. If they still don't, http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=582133 is my metamap as it is currently installed on my computer, so I know for certain that works. To install it you need to do the following.
Delete everything regarding metamap(again) and put all the folders+files in them into your Interface\Addons\ folder.
Put all the single files(ones that aren't in folders) that are present when you first open the .rar into your WTF\Account\AccountName\SavedVariables\ folder.
If for some reason you're STILL having problems, log into your game and go down your addons list and one-by-one disable them and see which one is fucking up your game. I've done a clean, no-addon check on my end and it works perfectly fine without any enabled(and with all of them), so if something is wrong after going through all that work, another mod is fucking with your install and there's nothing I(or anyone else, really) can do about that.
New stuff: This covers (currently) 1-58 and 60-70. Now, i'm not EXACTLY sure what levels each circuit will cover. I'm not going to mark down what level i'm at during each circuit, because you'll probably level at a different rate because you'll grind more or less. That said, here's a rough idea of what level you should be.
Level: Zone(Circuits)
12-15: The Barrens (Circuits 1-2)
15-16: Stonetalon Mountains (Circuit 1)
16-20: The Barrens (Circuits 3-4)
20-21: STonetalon Mountains (Circuit 2)
21-22: Ashenvale (Circuit 1)
22-23: The Barrens (Circuit 5)
23-25: Stonetalon Mountain (Circuit 3-4)
25: The Barrens (Circuit 6)
25-26: Thousand Needles (Circuit 1)
26-27: Ashenvale (Circuits 2-3)
27-29: Thouand Needles (Circuits 2-3)
29-30?: Hillsbrad Foothills (Circuit 1)
30: Arathi Highalands (Circuit 1)
30-31: Stranglethorn Vale (Circuit 1)
31-32: Thousand Needles (Circuit 4)
32-34: Desolace (Circuits 1-3)
34: Dustwallow Marsh (Circuit 1)(Not even really a circuit)
34-36: Stranglethorn Vale (Circuits 2-3)
36-37: Arathi Highlands (Circuits 2-3)
37: Alterac Mountains (Circuit 1)
37: Thousand Needles (Circuit 5)
37-38: Dustwallow Marsh (Circuits 2-3)
38-40: Stranglethorn Vale (Circuit 4)
40-41: Badlands (Circuit 1)
41-42: Swamp of Sorrows (Circuits 1-2)
42-43: Stranglethorn Vale(Circuit 5) DOES IT EVER END?!
43: Dustwallow Marsh (Circuit 4)
43-44: Tanaris (Circuit 1)
44-46: Feralas (Circuits 1-3)
46: Azshara (Circuit 1)
46-47: The Hinterlands (Circuit 1)
47: Stranglethorn Vale (Circuit 6)
47-48: Searing Gorge (Circuits 1-2)
48: Swamp of Sorrows (Circuit 3)
48-49: Feralas (Circuit 4)
49-50: Tanaris (Circuit 2)
50: Azshara. (Circuit 2)
50: The Hinterlands (Circuit 2)
50-51: The Blasted Lands (Doesn't follow the Circuit system)
51-52: Un Goro Crater (Circuits 1-2)
52-53: Burning Steppes(Circuit 1)
53: Azshara (Circuit 3)
53: Felwood (Circuit 1)
53-54: Winterspring (Circuits 1-3)
54-55: Felwood (Circuits 2-3)
55: Silithus (Circuits 1-2)
55-56: Western Plaguelands (Circuit 1)
56-57: Eastern Plaguelands (Circuits 1-2)
57-58: Western Plaguelands (circuits 2-3)
AZEROTH ENDS HERE. Abandon everything in your quest log, delete your old crap from your bags and head to Outland. If you don't have The Burning Crusade expansion stop being a douchebag and go buy it.
58-??: Hellfire Peninsula (Circuit 1)(Not complete, but it's in the guide because I fucked up when seperating the notes between the Release version and my version and I don't feel like fixing it)
This also covers Mulgore, the tauren starting area. Because i'm doing this as a tauren. I'm not gonna list it there, because there's 5 races and they all start in different places. You CAN go and start circuit 1 in the barrens the second you hit level 12.
The text version is now hosted here: http://www.ageofrebirth.com/WoWStuff/Braxis/ Thanks to Bent Wookiee for making it!
Two quick things I noticed: Missing notes I had showed up on this HTML version, meaning if you're missing a note you can cross-check it to the HTML version to see what's missing. This doesn't neccisarily mean ALL missing notes are there, since I didn't check all of them, but a very quick check(I have to leave like, now) showed all missing ones.
Secondly, the HTML version does not(yet) include outland.
QUESTIONS!
"Is this a speed guide?"
The outlands section, section 60-70 isn't. The rest? Yes, it is. It's about as fast as I can get it, tuned by me personally. It's very similar to Joana's guide, but it's edited in places where he made very obvious efficiency mistakes. And there are a lot of them. After playing through using his guide a few times I honestly don't see how nobody has dethroned him.(In fact, he just edited a small part of his guide that trimmed seven hours off of it. SEVEN. HOURS.)
"What do I do if I can't do a quest?"
See, this is problematic for the outland section. I'm a demonology warlock. I'll be honest and say there's very little I cannot kill. I honestly don't know which of these quests certain classes can or can't solo. With the exception of two Wanted Poster quests that are hard as fuck, everything should be relatively easy. Failing that, get a partner. Failing that, grind out about 20 thousand XP and you'll make up for lost experience. That number does not account for future quests in that chain. For the 1-60 section? If you can't do it I dunno.
"Ugggggggh this quest is fucking stupid do I really have to do it?"
See above. If you don't want to do a quest, look it up on thott to see if it's a chain. Grind experience accordingly.
"What's with all the typos?"
What are you, the fucking typo police?
"How do I get rid of all that information on the right hand side of my map?"
Right-click the question mark at the top of your map next to the options button. Be a little more explorative guys, click the buttons metamap comes with and try shit out. Maybe you can come up with something helpful for yourself! Worst case scenario you have to spend 3 minutes re-downloading and installing the addon and 15 seconds re-importing my notes.
"Actually, I like that side list of notes! It's cool, like an at-a-glance step by step thing!"
NO NO NO. I didn't even know that thing existed until I was halfway through terokkar forest. It is horribly out of order and from what I can gather there is no way to put it in order after the dots are made. The list either sorts alphabetically(useless) or by when dots were added. After i'm done with a circuit I go back and delete dots, add new ones and all kinds of shit for all the circuits up until that point in an attempt to optimize the circuits. That puts that sorted list all fucked up, don't use it. Really, don't.
"Are you twinked? Do you have the best gear possible and enchants for your 1-60 guide?"
Not at all. The only thing I did was mail my character a bunch of 16 slot bags and a pair of level 5 white shoes enchanted with running speed. I will not be buying any gear on my way to 70, the only gear i'll use is what I got from quests or drops. For outland? I was decked out in epix.
"What professions did you pick?"
Since I decided to not buy any gear ever, I picked up Herbalism and Alchemy. Strength, armor and nice healing potions are a godsend when your gear is crap.
"Are you a hunter? Are you a warlock? Are you some ultra class that my mage cannot possibly compete with?"
I'm a Tauren Druid. And I am the worst druid ever. I've spent more time corpse running on this character than I have spent on all my other characters combined, I say that with no exaggeration. All classes(With maybe the exception of Prot warriors) and specs should be able to follow this guide with no problem.
"I keep seeing "If you're not level 31 grind to it". I've been level 31 for two bars and I haven't even turned in quests yet, how could you possibly be so far behind? Am I grinding too much?"
For the 1-60 section, I never log out in an inn. I sometimes go days at a time without playing and so I generate way too much rested experience. For someone that plays every day, they wouldn't have as much rested XP as me and so i'd be ahead of them even though tehy did everything correctly. So, I opted to just go without rested any experience at all. The "If you're not 31, grind to it" reflects where I was level 31(and some bars in, maybe) in my notes from previous 1-60 runs, but didn't make it there on my druid with no rested experience.
"I have Cartographer, and it conflicts with Metamap, so I disable cartographer and I either A) Get errors out the ass B) Lose functionality for Mods or C) Metamap refuses to work"
Thanks to Tapeta, we now know that installing !!!!StandAloneLibraries from www.wowace.com/files is what you need to do to fix all that shit. As far as I can tell, it fixes all three issues. Rejoice!!
NOW THE IMPORTANT PART
The maps and circuits are nigh-unreadable if you turn on all circuits. Go to Options >> Notes Filter and turn off all of the notes aside from the circuit you are currently on. Circuit numbers are from top-to-bottom in the notes filter. Yellow square = Circuit 1, Red Square = Circuit 2, and so on.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you have unless they're covered in this post in which case I will either ignore you or mock you depending on my mood.
