View Full Version : Troy, I question your taste in "Classic Rock"

Ballads and bad 80s music do not a Classic Rock mix CD make. You have some good songs on here, but then you also have a bunch of retarded crap. You did the same thing with the Funk CD. It has a bunch of songs that don't fit the MO, I have to wonder if your going for quantity over quality.

See, the first CD that I stole from you was a good mix because when you ran out of stereotypical black music you said nuts to it and started putting in Manson and the Cult. I'll be doing a close inspection of the NIN disc, and hopefully we can sit down and prune everything so far.

I suggest we rank songs as follows:

Sound Quality: 1-5
This is mostly related to db level, you have to be able to hear the song, and you don't want to blow out your system on the next song from trying to compensate. A control volume will be necessary.

Replay-ability: 1-5
A lot more important than it seems. While Captain Jack may have some fun songs it's not healthy to listen to that kind of thing too much.

At a stoplight with the windows down play-ability: Yes or No
Pretty much says what it means. There are some songs that you can play at a stoplight with the windows down and the volume cranked while others not so much. This includes jpop, country, vulgar lyrics, nickleback, emo suicide, and Captain Jack.

Rock Factor: 1-5
Does it rock?

Funk Factor: 1-5
On a scale of 1 to 5, how funky is it?

Groove Factor: 1-5
Like Cashmier (Kashmier? Cachmere?)

Bass Factor: 1-5
Is there a kick ass bass? Bonus points for kick ass bass (not so much for you since your sound system blows  )

Classicosity: Yes or No
Does the song have merit via popular culture, or just being plain well known? This can be pretty debatable, but some examples might be Carwash or that ipod song.

Is it from the 80s? Yes or No
This should be a useful catchall. It doesn't disqualify, but keeps us on our toes.

Is it a ballad? Yes, No, Only part of it is
Ballads are boring and suck, and I don't want to listen to them while I'm driving. I don't think there has ever been a good ballad anyways.

Is it by The Police?
Fuck The Police

Judges Favorite: flag
If it's one of your favorite songs you flag it with this. Pretty much just a safety net so we can get Men Without Hats on there somehow.

I think this will be a good start.

It pisses me off so much when "Classic Rock" stations play music from the 80's.

Nothing was from the 80s on the CD that I am aware of. I apologize if that was not the case but I really just wanted to test my lightscribe burner.

I picked popular classic rock songs from each group and I tried to mix it up as much as possible. Some of the songs may not be considered driving music but it was music that any classic rock station would play.

You are a lazy guy so I never expected you to actually look at my music collection and pick out the stuff you enjoy so I put the songs I would enjoy. :p

1980 was 27 years ago. It's classic rock now. Sorry.

I have to agree with Ned. "Classic rock" isn't a static genre of music any more than "Oldies". One day, bands like Panic! At the Disco and My Chemical Romance will be played on Classic Rock stations and then Oldies stations. It's very sad to think about, but it's true.

60s and 70s is still classic rock to me but I do enjoy listening to GnR and AC/DC on the stations now. I do realize that I put ZZ Top on that cd but I tried to stick to the more rocking stuff and skipped the eliminator crap. Ryan loves The Cult now so my musical taste does not completely suck. :)

That NIN CD had better have a heathy dose of The Fragile, or I declare it a failure with the power of my Art is Resistance avatar.
