The 200th Smackdown is rapidly approaching. Wouldn't it be cool to kick off such a landmark event with a new game? What are the options? Team Fortress 2 may be out by then, but that game may not be right for a Smackdown with a small turnout.

So what should happen with SD200?

The odds are good that we'll play the original UT on Morpheus, I'd think.

TF2 already? I thought I had longer to upgrade my hardware =/

While it's not exactly a tradition (since we only did it once), Smackdown 100 was a repeat of the first Smackdown and as Tick points out, that was the original UT on the map Morpheus.

Do people want to hold dear to tradition or use #200 to officially usher in something shiny and new? Speak now or...speak a little later!

EDIT: According to my homemade calendar-making skills, if we don't skip any Sundays (this coming Sunday being the exception), Smackdown 200 will fall on November 3rd.

Crap. Both Rat and I will be flying back in from Mexico on that day. We land in O'Hare at 14:00, so we may still be on time, but I'll probably be wiped out, and likely sunburned nearly into a coma.

What's particularly ironic is that he had threatened me with physical injury if I didn't play in SD 200.

I can understand keeping with tradition and using an oldschool game for SD...I just hope I can find my CDs. :)

I'm not bound to it, which is why I threw it open for suggestions. I'm also curious which games will actually be out in time for it, assuming we do the SD around early or mid-November.

I did end up getting the original UT just in case. I am open to a new game of course, and really liked the way TF2 looked.

JR, you are now required to bring a laptop on vacation.

Even though it's only UT, I don't know if I own a laptop that would run it.

We could do tradition with #200 and then use #201 to bring in something new.

Or we may not be willing to wait until November to start playing TF2 if it comes out in September or October. Does it have anything resembling a street date yet?

i'm just kidding. i'm not bringing my laptop to mexico. your wife's laptop would run it no problem though.

November 3rd is a Saturday.

If we actually get to SD 200 on that weekend, I'm fine. If it falls a week later, on the 11th, I'm going to miss it. The wedding is November 10, and on the evening of the 11th, I expect to be drinking umbrella drinks and making whoopy someplace in the Caribbean.

If it were to fall on the 11th, and get postponed an additional week so I could attend (dare I hope), then UT3 *should* be out, as it is scheduled for release November 13 (in-store date). TF2 is scheduled for October 9, so we will likely have popped it's cherry with SD 196 or 197. Assuming, of course, enough of us buy it to make it SD worthy (I'm not too worried).

Assuming, also, that it'll actually release somewhere close to that date.

October 9th? Dang, sooner than I expected. I was hoping to put off buying the new computer til December-ish.

Will it require a beefy PC? I haven't seen any recommended specs or anything, but it doesn't appear to need much horsepower.

Hrm, not "require". I think I read that it will take advatnage of dual core CPU's though, and DX10.
