Smackdown 188: Hail to the Master Chief
Date: Sunday, August 5th
Time: 6 p.m. PDT, 8 p.m. Central, 9 p.m. EDT
Game: Halo PC CE
Gametype: Oddball
Map: Battle Creek

To help celebrate the announcement that Halo 3 will have 4-player co-op over Xbox Live (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=thesoundofsack) it's time to dust off the original Halo for a little bit of Warthoggy goodness.

If we have an even number of players we'll be playing some CTF, if not we'll be going with some Oddball instead (Oddball = catch the guy with the ball). I am amenable to other gametypes if people would prefer something else.

Note that we will be playing Tribes: Vengeance and Jedi Outcast soon, too, so start a-searching for those games if you don't have 'em installed.

A friendly reminder (as per the sticky thread): we are using the Custom Edition of Halo which is the standalone multiplayer version Gearbox released. The standard version of the game is *not* compatible with Halo CE. For anyone who's played in a Halo SD before, you're already set.

I think I was using my other computer when we last played. I can't find Halo on my current game machine anyway. With that said, I *think* I know where the CD is and will of course try to attend.

Update: Found the sleeve, the box, the manual...no disk. *grrr* don't wait for me.

Just to clarify:

Halo CE is Gearbox's attempt to make the multiplayer part of the game more better. It is standalone in the sense that it can be run without having the original Halo installed, however it still requires your original Halo CD in order to pass a CD check when you do run it.

There is a no-CD fix available but it is not for the 1.07 version, so I don't know how well/if it will work.

I am still unable to get my PC to boot normally. If I can get it running in time for the Smackdown, I'll be there, but don't wait on me.

An intimate affair with only four in attendance. Everyone gets a prize except Sam. :(

Congrats to Circuit who won even though his game kept telling him weird things. (We played Oddball on Battle Creek).

yeah, CE requires the retail version which I don't own. I lied, just as Circ predicted!

Congrats on winning and being right about me being a liar!
