Smackdown 187: Space 1999
Date: Sunday, July 29th
Time: 6 p.m. PDT, 8 p.m. Central, 9 p.m. EDT
Game: Quake 3 demo (http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake3-arena/index.php?game_section=demo)
Gametype: Deathmatch
Map: The Longest Yard

Time for another demo. Free games, hooray! This time we're taking the Wayback Machine to the year 1999. People were fretting about the Y2K bug, gas cost a buck-something and id had the temerity to release a game with no single player story (just like the original Quake!)

The Quake 3 demo can be found at the above link or the usual sites. It contains four maps and the one we will be using may be familiar as it's been featured in remakes for a number of games. The Longest Yard inspires a love/hate relationship because it is easy to fall to your death, whether by your own hand or someone else's. But I find it's good silly fun.

Hope to see youse there!

woot, I say.

I will be testing the server sometime before the usual SD warmup to make sure the dedicated server config file is working properly. I'll post a heads-up here so guinea pigs can volunteer to help out.

I, for one, will not continue to tolerate all the cheating going on that causes me to lose. Also, I shouldn't be able to lose points by falling off the ledge into outerspace.

Thanks to everyone for showing. There was some trouble with ping spikes partway through (check Shadowrat's in the screenshot) but they seemed to mostly go away after a few minutes.

I believe we all fell into space a combined 50 million times.
