It's called "get my new motorcycle running" :bg:
I picked up a 1979 goldwing last tuesday for $600.
http://www.bananagravy.com/images/092005/goldwing.jpg
It's a complete bike with a full touring package but it's been sitting for about 8 years. The guy I picked it up from rebuilt the carbs about 6 months ago and couldn't get it to idle since then. I opened up the air cut-off valve and the spring was missing. $20 rebuild kit and she fired right up. Just gotta tune and sync the carbs, bleed the brakes and change the fluids and I should be on my way! The fairing, saddlebags and trunk aren't currenlty attached and I think I'll leave her naked for now, so I''ll have to find a way to mount a headlight and some turn signals.

I'm really excited about this thing. I've had a hard on for Goldwings since I was a kid. :spank:

Bout the only word I understood in there was "saddlebags" but congrats anyway. I've always wanted to pick up a bike, but with no time to ride and even less mechanical skillz, I've always been afraid to jump into the bike market.
Orion used to have an old beater that he let me ride around after he bought his Harley. It was a blast.
Much fun to you... and enjoy the benefits of a lower gasoline bill!

Motorcycles scare me. :(
But congrats. Now you need some chaps and a fat, greasy handlebar mustache!

Congrats on the bike purchase. They are great fun. Sadly I sold mine about 2 years ago and have missed it ever since.
Enjoy it!
Nice :) It looks alot like my wife's Yamaha xs650. She also bought it used and somewhat running, and has disassembled and put it back together. But I'm like Ned, and motorcycles scare me (mostly because I remember our college riding habits) so we have a little deal going - the day she rides that motorcycle is the day I go skydiving again, and since she is vehemently opposed to that, we have a good (and safe) impasse :bg:

Is she aware that skydiving is actually safer than riding a motorcycle? :)

The thing about skydiving is, once you safely get out of the plane, there's really only one thing you can hit...

yep, she actually admits she is being irrational. Wierd, huh?

Yeesh, now there's an example of a badly packed chute.

The trouble with skydiving is you can only reduce the risk so much. And once something goes wrong, you've only got a second to revert to your backup. Unless you are that guy and you've got quite some time before you need to break away.
At least driving motorcycle, you can opt to drive in light or no traffic at whatever speed you feel comfortable with.
Riding on the back of a motorcycle is a different story altogether.
Having done all three things, riding on the back of a motorcycle is easily the scariest thing i've ever done.

Agreed, the one that sticks in my mind was hanging on to the back as my housemate popped a wheelie all the way into town... at 135 mph.

Right, but it's pretty much impossible to escape all the other stupid people the road. You can't really plan for people being dumb, unfortunatly. With skydiving, the only people you have to worry about are yourself and the guy who packed your chute. I guess it's possible you could accidentally land in a vat of acid or get hit by a sniper, though.

That sounds like a cool idea for the next Medal of Honor game. Parachuting into a bunch of snipers!
And my reference to motorcycles being scary is also because of being a passenger. Hanging onto the guy doing the driving while the world goes by in a blur is the next best thing to riding a rollercoaster that don't have no stinkin' track. I think riding a motorcycle or some kind of nerdy scooter would be fun and relaxing if you were doing it on some post-apocalyptic highway without any other people to bother you.

*Sigh*
Congrats on the purchase of your new baby, from one gearhead to another. I've always thought that the Goldwing was the ultimate in touring bike, but I could never bring myself to own one, being a cruiser man myself. Besides, if you own a Goldwing, you need a wife with a jacket the same as yours, and I don't plan on marrying soon. Also remember this; 95% of all Goldies brakes squeak, the other 5% have no brakes.

My dad used to have a Goldwing that he brought to shows. I was probably 7 or 8 the last time I rode on it, but that thing just seemed gigantic! It was like someone took a car, removed 2 wheels and smooshed it into the shape of a motorcycle.

It's called "get my new motorcycle running"
Turns out I suck at this game. There were all kinds of l puzzles I didn't expect and there is no difficulty slider at all.
I came to the realization that the only way to beat this game was to delete it and buy an Anniversary addition Sportster from one of my co-workers. So that's what I did.

Obligatory "noob" comment.
Does this mean you'll come back to WoW now? We miss you!
Awesome Foe! Those Goldwings are no joke. Classics! If you ever find yourself out in my neck of the woods give me a yell and I'll come out and meet you somewhere.

My grandfather used to ride his Goldwing EVERYWHERE. As long as the wind and ice weren't bad, he would be out and about on it. I think I spent more time riding with him than I did in a car most summers since he jumped at the chance to go ride for a few hours when he had the chance.
Great machines, the lot of them.

perhaps I wasn't clear... I threw in the towel with the Goldwing and bought a Harley:wavey:

You should just remove the Harley logo and replace it with a Honda one. I think that would give you street cred or something.

You dirty rotten...thing. From a Goldwing to a Harley? That is like going from a supermodel to Quasimodo. :(

Polished shit is still shit :)
I've ridden a lot of bikes in my life, and never, ever have I liked Harleys. They are poorly made (excepting the past two years) and are horrible on maintenance.
My rides of choice have always been either Yamaha (cheap yet well-built) or the ever-pricey BMW.

I'm holding out for the flying cars and motorcycles we've been promised by "The Jetsons" and "Back to the Future". Or at least a Mr. Fusion!
Yeah, or the Moller Skycar (http://www.moller.com/purchase/purch_info.html)! What's with the delay?

F7, that bike is so hot!
Thanks JR! I've wanted one since they came out in the 90's but heard how expensive Ducati's were and igorantly believed it. Then last year I actually went to see one and to my surprise I got it for 8K.
I just got done playing a little Tomb Raider Legends and after seeing Lara Croft zipping around on a 3D modelled replica of my very bike, I'm sure the coolness factor dropped a few notches. I'll probably get a lot of oohs and ahhs from high schoolers but I fear that once word gets out my riding buds will be calling me Lara and will probably buy me a brunette wig in a pony tail.
Anywho, that pic was from last year. 1 year later and lots of mods later, here she is.
