239 meg Demo (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=7691) Includes a level you can play solo or coop with up to 4 players. Includes one vehicle.

It's small! Just go get it!

Is it possible to put that file up in the private section? I hate Fileshack.

I hate Fileshack.

Medic, you can join Q in the group of people that have irrational hate for all things Shacknews.

I've been a member there since August of 2000, and aside from the occasional idiots in the chatty, I think it may be one of the best gaming resources on the internet. It's also opened doors for me in other communities that I'd never otherwise have, some of which benefit Martians directly. As far as Fileshack, I've gotten DL speeds well over 500kb/s, never have to wait in line, always have access to files I need regardless of when they were released, and have a number of reliable convenient locations from which to choose to download.

*shrug*

Carry on hating, I guess.

*Sigh*

I guess what I really hate is places like fileshack exist; for one, I seem to have to go though about 5-6 screens just to get to the actual file. For another, and maybe I'm being irrational, but if you put out a program, file, whatever, host it on yer own damn site. If its a hot file, put up some mirrors. I miss the good ol' days where developers actually had their files on their web sites instead of farming it out. I guess I'm lazy and don't want to have to go though trying to figure out what my password and account name is every F'ing time I want to DL a file. It seem like I'm taking 15 minutes just to start the thing.

Yes, but what you're missing is the fact that it's free to us, but not to them. The trouble that you have to go through to click a few times is backed up by people who put forth a pretty good amount of effort to make the files available in the first place. While I typically prefer fewer clicks to get stuff off the internet, stuff like this certainly isn't enough to evoke any sort of hatred towards anyone. I'm not understanding why you hate that "places like Fileshack" exist.

I agree with Medic, but for a slightly different reason. I don't feel like I should have to pay a monthly fee, or give over my e-mail address for advertising, to be able to download what is essentially an advertisement itself. Yes, I paid $7.95 to get the beta for Battlefield 2 and at least 1 other game through Fileplanet, but I agree with Medic...the publishers should host their own damn files. If other places want to draw people in with higher download speeds and pay for it with advertising or subscription fees, so be it, but the publishers should offer a decent download option too.

And don't get me started on Blizzard and Bittorrent. $12.95 a month and they can't host the file themselves AND I have to let people download it from my computer at the same time I'm grabbing a patch or my download speed goes to crap...phooey!

Pal kinda said what I was feeling; developers should host their own files. I guess hate may be a strong word, I just don't like having to go through a ton of different sites just to get to the file I want. And I also don't want to have to register to get a demo for a game that I might buy. I understand the economics of it: the dev's don't have to put up the bandwidth, the 'Fileshacks' get revenue from advertising, ect ect. Yea, if there were sites that said, 'Hey, the Tribes IV demo is out; Sierra is uploading at 70kb, but we can do it and all your other file needs for 11.99 a month!' then hey, they've got me. But I just don't like the system now.

You pay 12.95? How come I get charged $14.99?

The longer you pay for in one block, the less you pay per month.

ah, I should have realized this!

Tai, you should just buy a block of 12 months, then you're spending less money each month to not play. ;)

that's what I do, I pay for 6 months of not playing at time. I've got about 5 months left just in case

Serious Sam 2 looks pretty good, but it plays differently than the last. In my opinion, not differently good. It's not good old fashioned chaos. It's actually really sad. :(

I did also check out the demo for Total Overdose, this weird, low-rent Mexican Shootout game, and dammit...

It was a lot more fun.

If given a choice between buying one or the other, I'd buy Total Overdose (http://totaloverdose.com).

I dunno. I played through the demo level and it felt pretty much the same to me, but much prettier. The level in the demo isn't great, but it's also quite a bit less open than the typical SS and SS:SE map. I know from the previews that those large, open maps are in the game. They just chose for whatever reason to include this fairly average one.

What did you enter your birthday as on the Total Overdose site?
