Updated with sparkling fresh map info!
Date: Sunday, February 11, 2007
Time: 7 p.m. Pac, 9 p.m. Central, 10 p.m. East
Game: UT2004
Gametype: Deathmatch
Map: DM-Goliath
Mutators: Bonus Combos, Pinata2k4
DM-Goliath is a base map. The Pinata2k4 mutator is a small download you can get automagically from the server if you don't have it installed already. Think of it as adding loot to UT. :P
You will need to have the Mega Pack installed. Assorted Mega Pack links:
FilePlanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/145962/140000/fileinfo/UT2004-Mega-Bonus-Pack)
FileShack (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/8127/Unreal+Tournament+2004+Mega+Pack)

Hello.
I'd like to run a "just for fun" Smackdown (no official results) this Sunday as a warm-up to get the kinks out of the server and the players. We will playing UT2004 and probably sticking to a fairly vanilla setup (DM or Team DM likely). I am open to map suggestions, so fire away.
Getting the MegaPack listed in the stickied thread will be sufficient to update your version of UT2004 to the latest, although it's a good idea to get the map packs just in case.
I realize some people aren't interested in UT2004 or aren't available Sundays, but there is never going to be a setup that works for everyone. I am willing to consider other games or nights *if* some semblance of a consensus can be reached.
The End!

That works for me.
Unfortunately, I'm working this Sunday, so I will not be in attendance (unless the east coast start time is suddenly moved to like 1:30 am).
I will see about not working Sundays in the future so I may attend (and also so I can get to bed in a reasonable time frame for school).

I will be there as long as I can get UT2004 re-installed on my machine by then. :)
I will be there barring acts of God (or the wife ( which is the same thing ) );
I think UT2004 is still installed on my machine, so I should be good to go.

I shall announce the map later today so those inclined to practise will have a few days to do so.
Cool, I for one will need to practice just to remember how to commit suicide.

I would really like to participate in the Smacking of the Down, but I do not have a copy of UT2004. Is there somewhere I could dl or buy a cheap copy of UT2004? By cheap, I mean under $15, because I am brokeass poor.
Think of it as adding loot to UT. :P
hahahaha. also, COOKIES!! :p
Avalon, I think you'll have to look around locally if you are aiming for this warm up session. It is going for $10 to $20 in the bargain bins these days if you can find it. You could order it online, but will pay more for next day shipping than the game itself. I don't know about purchasing it for downloadi, I haven't heard of such for UT2k4 (might still be worth a google though).

Midway has re-released the game on DVD. The packaging doesn't indicate if it's the Editor's Choice or whatnot, but it's selling locally for $10.
Trivia! The last time we played the map DM-Goliath (Smackdown 120), Sam was the winner:
1. Sam
2. Circuit
3. Paladin
4. pogozorro
5. Postal
6. Longbranch
7. Tick
8. Armerius
9. Q
Wasn't Q-Arm the top 2 in about 30 different smackdowns? The bottom half of that list just seems all wrong.
I have no idea what happened to me in that SD. More than twice as many deaths as kills!
P.S. Ebgames.com has UT2004 listed at $9.99.

Even odder, the game has several multi-level open areas that just scream "shock combo".
I will have the server running ahead of time cycling through a few other maps as a warm-up.
Q was obviously called away 2 minutes into the match. Arm flipped off a wall and bumped his head, resulting in double vision for the rest of the map.

ahhh.. my days as the king of inconsistency (sp?)
yup... not one of my finer matches.
soo.. i'm taking bets... even if i DO manage to find my UT2K4 discs (Which is doubtful) who thinks i'll actually have it installed and SD ready?
i'm guessing this is the one area where i will remain consistently unprepared.

Just remember to turn down your mic before logging into vent and I will make no complaints :)
I jumped on a server to play last night in an attempt to reaquaint myself with the game. Some observations:
- Goliath is a confusing map.
- first game against all bots ended with me losing by one kill (first to 25) and with 20 deaths.
- second game, one bot, 4 humans, I came in 4th with 19 kills, the bot won.
- after two rounds, my arms were KILLING me.
reminder: this is tonight.
I think that the next Smackdown should be titled A Farewell to Pretzel.

The server should be up about an hour or so before gametime for practise and "OMG why isn't this working?!!"

well, this blows. i found a copy of all unreal games on the Unreal Anthology dvd at best buy today. I tried to install it, but it won't accept the cd key!
It's clearly printed, and just doesn't work. WTF?
edit: a 1 may be an l. perhaps it's not so clearly printed.
edit: it was an l

Well, I bluescreened twice, so it looks like I'm done for the night. :(
:( that's what we figured. unfortunate, any ideas why it BSODed?

Apart from Sam and Arm's issues with connecting, everything went quite smoothly. Thanks to all who played.
Tai started strong, holding down first place for the first three minutes until Circuit passed him. Circuit then built up a large lead that Q slowly chipped away at. In the final few minutes Circuit and Q were tied. Q pulled ahead with less than ten seconds to go but with only two seconds on the clock, Circuit scored and forced overtime. The green robit then went on to win.

A test of Q's Elimination Tournament Edition also went well. Sneaky robit won there, too.

It was super funs. :)
That really was great. I am now tempted to go see what FPS's might be out there for playing, the only one I can think of is BF2142, and I am leery of that series now :(
Also, carpal tunnel ow!!

Prophetic, or what? ;)
Sorry you couldn't play Arm :(

Not really. I might try updating my video card drivers, but I'm not really sure what happened. Maybe it's just time for a new PC. :(

Do you get any BSODs outside of UT2004?

And on a more general note, would anyone be up for doing this again next Sunday and making it all official-like? I think EliminationTE could work well (Q paid me to say that, but I also agree).

Do you get any BSODs outside of UT2004?
Only once, and that was when I downloaded FlatOut 1 & 2 via Steam. FlatOut 2 bluescreened on me when I started a race.
I've played a couple of other games since then, but they're not really games that push my video card (Resident Evil 4 and some desktop games).

I'm up for it. That was the most fun i had gaming in a long time.
err, Sharon will be flying in from Arizona that afternoon and told me I couldn't play once she got back from her trip. I shall negotiate and shall be there if I can :) Yay for the Return of the Smackdowns.

I would definitely be interested in playing next week. I had every intention of being there last night, but ended up suffering from a stomach virus and just couldn't make it. I will be there this week, however.
nod, we were shockled you weren't there
