After thinking about it, I am going to start looking around for a raid guild for my 60s. We have four or five people who play regularly anymore, which, while nice, just doesn't allow us to do anything. People get bored, annoyed and tired of not accomplishing anything, so I suggest you join an existing guild. If you want to actually do something, join a guild and play something. Hope Within is a viable option for quite a few of you, so that is something you might consider.
The short of it is, in order to do places like Zul'Gurub, MC, or BWL, you NEED a large group of people committed to keeping things going, as when you get into them, when a raid kills a boss, they are saved into the instance. ZG is three days, MC and BWL are seven days. I know quite a few people would like to just be able to do simpler things, the 5-10 man instances take awhile, and people need to be there for them.
I am lucky in that my wife plays and in that, I always have someone to play with. PUGs don't really bother me, but that is not the same for everyone.
The game has been out for ten, eleven months and people get tired of it. This much is a fact. However, if you really don't plan on playing anymore, let people know.
The guild will stay as is, and will be a simple friend's list for the foreseeable future. It will be a place for people to come and go, but just go do whatever. Don't feel tied to the guild because your friends are in it. We still can get together to do things, which is my preference. I love playing with you all, but I still enjoy this game and I refuse to sit around, hoping someone shows up for an instance.

Sadly, this is probably the best direction at this point. I've cut down to 3 nights a week of playtime, and the less I play, the less I miss my 7 days a week of 4+ hours a night. I still enjoy playing, but I think that's due mainly to the fact that I play less.
The new patch should revive some excitement, but we won't be able to assemble 20 people for Zul'Gurub on our own. Those interested in playing it should ally themselves with a larger guild in order to avoid PUGs.
Good luck. I'll see you guys online.

I have had mostly good experiences with pugs however most high end pugs are not very rogue friendly. But that is ok, bringing up my alts slowly but surely. I guess this means that I have to get off my lazy butt and add everybody to my friends list because I mainly rely on the guild info to let me know who is on. Also, may I suggest an updated thread for those still playing as to their character names, type and level. I have to go to work now so if it is not up by this evening I will do so.

I DO have to cut down on my playing time, for health and marriage's sake. I just have not gotten the necessary resolve yet. So for the time being, I am still usually on every night until the wee hours. However, my hubby will be back from Europe next week and has no more trips scheduled. So I'll be under close scrutiny to muster up that missing resolve.
Brun already joined another guild 2 days ago. (That is why you did not see me online in the guild roster, Pogo, although I was obviously around.) This new guild is currently providing the entertainment I crave, but it's mostly a bunch of college kids who are still to level up their first chars to 60. So I'll have a bunch of folks running BRD/UBRS/LBRS, DM etc., which suits Brun just fine, but I don't know yet whether I like them enough to stay.
Brun's new guildies have been on me to switch Andri to their guild as well, but I don't want to do that. I may join Box at Hope Within instead. See how that goes. Before making that transfer, however, I will explore my options with the Swords of the Morning. They have been great friends for all of my chars ever since Pogo recruited one of them into a Scholo raid with us. The issue is that they may not be very large as a guild either. I want to make sure they can man at least ZG before I join.
In the meantime, I am heartbroken about the fate of the Martian Cartel. :( I had the best of times when we raided LBRS together with all of us on vent. I miss Pogo threatening to eat me, and BoX tormenting the Red kiddo about his name. AND I MISS POSTAL!!! GODDAMMIT, WHERE ARE YOU??? :spank:
If most of the Martians are set on not playing WoW anymore (Foe? Bri? Tai? Keith?), maybe we could arrange for some char transfers to snatch up their highbies. (I'd take Slither anytime :bg: ) I also have my eye on a 60 mage who is not playing anymore. Just have to get a hold of that kid somehow.
BTW, Harkonen has been around quite a bit lately. He is just so quiet that it's easy to forget about him. I think, he has not been in any instance with us ever.

The only reason why you have such good experiences with pugs is that you are the nicest and most patient guy I have ever met. :) Love ya!
Tai doesn't have much, but I've already given JR permission to play him if/when he wants to try a shadow priest.

Fine with me since I only have to respec my own priest if I want to experiment with shadow. :D
But does that imply that you are keeping your account active?

Harka is still active just not played much. Truthfully I was waiting for the Paly reworking to be done before I touched him again since i got burned out on the Paly in its current state.
my account is currently active, yes. I tend to keep them alive for alot longer than sensible for some reason.

Complete with red glowing eyes, unshaven face, and a beer in each hand? ;)

Basically yes. The only thing I can't quite picture is how you play a game while holding a beer in each hand. Do you operate the keyboard with your toes?
Magical Martian Moonshine!! :) Actually, the green men of Mars have four arms. This is a well known fact:

You said: holding a beer in each hand. So the number of arms would not really matter.

damn, outsmarted again.

Can any of the Martians who joined Hope Within fill us in on whether there will be a chance of runnig Zul Gurub together? We know they have problems getting a 40 person raid together without using PUGs. For ZG, on the other hand, they may have too many people so that some would have to sit out. In that case, they'll probably not be interested in having Martians knock on their door to join in.
I have to say that I am still very torn about joining Hope Within. I want to stay a Martian, but I just don't see us get anything done together anymore. Even when we are on with 5 people, we are all going our separate ways, which usually means soloing for me or teaming up with strangers. Most of the friends that I made as Andri are in MC or ZG these days.

Well, I can answer my own question now after having spent all Sunday with HW in ZG. I had to run two other instances after it to make up for the repair bill and lost morale after 10+ wipes. But it was great fun. Especially watching "Sin" (to others known as BoX) dance naked with the bloodlord.
While we were waiting for swapped out party members to join, I talked to some of the HW guys, and there are a fair number of them who still need gear from Scholo/Strat/BRS (including BoX). So what do you remaining martians think? Should we get something organized? Heather has her char far enough up now to go to places, and Budly might want to get some of his blue gear too. It all seems just a matter of organization and communication.

Well, none of you have posted an answer, from which I would conclude that there is little interest from you fellow martians to do any of the aforementioned instances. Also, most of you are still hanging on with the martian cartel although you said you would likely be looking to join an established raid guild with their highbie chars. Well, I did so yesterday after having received very nice invitations from several members of HW.
As with Brun, this was a very hard decision for me. I love you martians; therefore I would have preferred that we get our ranks up again or that we all find a new home somewhere together. I incredibly miss the days when we did stuff together all the time. And I thought that we had hung out for long enough as a guild to know that we can still always count on one another, no matter what our guild names are. Instead, it seems that you guys rarely even talk to me in game anymore when I play Brun. It seems that you either did not put me on your friends list so that you don't know that I am online, or that you don't want to bother setting up group events when we can't all communicate via the guild channel. Or maybe you simply don't want to do any instances. That Loggy's vent server is gone is certainly no help since that effectively shut down our other line of communication. So we are usually all scattered about, doing our own stuff, and nobody makes an effort to get something groupish going even when we are technically enough people. Or if you do, you don't let me know. I learned about gnomer yesterday only because I happened to log on with Ravenwing to make some pots. (Sorry again, BTW, for being such a ninja. Must have had my head up my ass.)
After gnomer, I messed around solo for some more, which I really do not particularly enjoy. While going so, I received an invitation from Hope Within to join them on an UBRS run. I can't tell you how great it felt going on a well-organized, well-communicated big raid again without PUGs, wipes, or squabbling over loot. Furthermore, HW had no problem at all with me rolling against their own priest, which I found a very nice change from having to deal with other people's complicated point systems or "you are not guild, so you get served last" attitudes. When I voiced my surprise over their generosity (they would even have let me roll against their entire guild on the pristine black diamond which they usually send straight to their guild bank), I got the response "Why should you not roll? Martians = HW".
More than anything else it was that statement that sold me. It is my impression that they genuinely feel like that about us and that we are met with considerable appreciation for our skill, chars, and guild rep. So if any of you are still looking for a new home for your highbies or a chance to do some major instances... Give HW a thought. As in any guild, there are members one likes more than others, but overall they are a fun bunch and remind me very much of our own early days. There is, of course, no need to join them in order to run with them, but what holds for us martians holds just as much for them: Not being able to read the guild chat, you are likely to be forgotten when instance groups form.

Sorry Inka, I haven't been on since the 1.7 patch. The game crashes on me now, and I haven't had the time to run the repair tool to see if that does any good. I suspect it's my video driver, and maybe the new Catalyst 5.9 will fix it, but I won't be able to try that either until tomorrow night.
I'll be back on once I can get the game running reliably again. No point in it while it's play 2 minutes and crash like now though.

Yeah, (unfairly) I pinned a lot of hope on 1.7 to make playing my hunter fun again. When it really only made gameplay different, and not so much better, my last bit of hope for my hunter broke, and I haven't found the desire to touch the game since then.
My 1 month renewal runs out on the 28th. I'm fairly certain unless hero classes are due out before then, I won't be coming back to WoW any time soon. :(
I need to take a long break.

Can I have your stuff?
I'm actually about to cancel my account, I'm willing to distributre my stuff. I think IU have about 40 gold, and sundry items, although most will be soulbound of course. I'll try and update my client soon and take a look at what I have if that helps...

If you are going to cancel and you really want to get rid of you stuff, I suggest just disbursing the liquid assets and keeping whatever gear you have. You never know when you will come back and it would be sad to have a 40-something priest with just his birthday suit.

*grin* too true. All his armor and weapon stuff is soulbound, and I wouldn't leave him naked, that's just scarey.
And he's level 50 :wavey: ;)

maybe it's time for all of your to give that free 10 hours of guild wars a test, eh?
play an MMO with no fees and that doesn't require ungodly amounts of time?

You know, I'm not a big fan of people posting in a forum for a specific game trying to lure people away to play a different game. I keep the CoH stuff where it belongs, for example - in the CoH forum. If people want to play, that's fine. I don't need - or want - to recruit them away from something else, though.
So to prevent this from turning into a big stupid argument, I'm locking this thread. I ask that everyone refrain from starting another thread in the WoW forum on the debate over which game is "better" or whatever.
Thanks.
