Burnout Revenge is out this week for the XBox*. Is anyone getting it? There are some neat additions to the Burnout universe with this game, including:
* an enhanced crash mode with no more powerups that literally show you the best route to take through the course
* the ability to slam into traffic and send cars flying into opponents (though this only works with cars and light trucks (not busses or semis) and only if they're traveling in your direction; oncoming cars are still dangerous)
* Crashbreaker can now be used in races
* Mutliple Crashbreakers can be earned in crash mode
* Trophies can be earned for vertical takedowns (landing on top of an opponent's car)
What's more, Burnout Legends is also coming out for the PSP this week -- I can't wait to play the equivalent of Burnout 3 (with the addition of Pursuit Mode, tracks and cars from the previous Burnout games) on the PSP.
It's Burnout overload!
Burnout Revenge received a review score of 9.1 (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/burnoutrevenge/review.html) from Gamespot.
Likewise, Burnout Legends for the PSP got a 9.0 (http://www.gamespot.com/psp/driving/burnout/review.html?q=1&tag=gs_psp_flashtop_read).
* and PS2, but who cares about that one, really? : )

The official Xbox magazine's current issue (although with my usual fantastic timing, it's probably being pulled from store shelves as I type this) has a demo for Burnout: Revenge on its DVD. I've been thinking about giving it a spin (haha, geddit?)
Anyhoo, if enough people show interest I might pick it up (my Xbox Live account is still valid, if dusty) but otherwise I'll probably pass. I have enough racing games that I really can't justify another quite yet.

I'll be getting it. Gamespot has already reviewed it and gave it a great review. I don't have X-box live at all though so probably no online play for me.

Does this mean you won't completely wipe out when brushing a car travelling in your direction?
One thing that never made much sense to me in Burnout 3 was that you could slam into other racers and keep on going, but if you so much as touch a non-racer, you'd completely explode.

I'll be picking it up as soon as I can. The demo was a lot of fun even though it was only one race with one car on one track. Despite that I still probably played it 30 times.

yeah you can hit them at an angle and not wreck. If you ram them from behing it will send them flying into whatevers in front of them. Youll still wreck if you hit them head on or T-Bone them I believe.
I'll be passing on this one I think.

That's correct; unless you slam into an 18 wheeler or a bus; they're bad news no matter which way you (or they) are going.
I played the demo that Best Buy gave out for free, and it was pretty fun.

So I got Burnout Revenge. I have only played an hour or so but this seems like anouther great Burnout game. There are a bunch of changes with most seeming like really good improvements. The new race type where you plow through traffic is really fun. The only thing I didn't like were some of the changes to the crash game. Overall looks like this is going to be a great game.

So that's what you've been doing when you really should have been with us on WoW. :spank:

quick dirty review:
Got to play for a couple hours last night. I think it was split pretty evenly between single and multi. Bottom line, if you enjoyed Burnout 3 youll love this one. Everything looks a little better and the insane sense of speed is still there. The new crash mode is harder than before and you actually have to work at getting your gold now. No 4X crutch to prop up your scores anymore.
Best part: The new tracks are awesome. This is the biggest improvememt in my eyes. The multiple paths and levels are fantastic.
Worst part: Unlocking stuff in single player doesnt unlock it in multiplayer.

My copy should be arriving today. I would have picked it up locally, but I had a $15-off coupon at the EA games website, and I wanted to use it before it expired.
In the meantime, I've been playing Burnout Legends on the PSP, and it's incredible how closely it matches the console version of Burnout 3, visually. Crashes are just as spectacular, and although it's not quite as pretty, it's still a surprise that they managed to get such performance out of the PSP.

I was home sick yesterday and picked this up to occupy me.
I think it's easier than the Burnout: Takedown, cause in two days I've made it to 87% complete. Great game, though. The new paths through tracks are awesome, and vital to earning gold on the Burning Laps. It's gratifying to take a shortcut and shave 5 seconds off the gold lap time, or to move from 6th place into 1st.
Another cool feature, each car has a different Crashbreaker intensity. I'd been driving mainly cars that had an intesity of 1, but changed to a car with a 6 for a Crashbreaker Race. In a narrow alleyway with all 5 cars trying to steal my lead, I made a bad twicth and hit a dumpster at 209mph. I was afraid to lose my lead and waited for the perfect moment to detonate my crashed car.
It was the only time I've ever seen a Total Payback. I fucking blew up everyone. It was great.
The unlocks in multiplayer is the suck. I don't play online enough to ever get the good cars. :(
