I'm ripping off my own post, copied shamelessly from TW:

I started this sculpture back in January 2004, coincidentally on the same day my father died in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. It's a relief to finally be done with it.

I'm nowhere near as good as MinasTirithGuard (a very accomplished sculptor who posts on TribalWar), but since this is my first really detailed sculpture, I figure I did OK.

There are some things I wish I could redo, like the feet (toes kept breaking off while I was baking the clay), and I'd like to add more detail to the head. Some details like part of the spine got smushed and lost some detail during baking.

I also would have chosen a more dynamic "action" pose. . .

But basically, I'm just glad to be done.

It's good enough to give a kid nightmares. :)

Looking back on the art classes I took in school, we did very little model work, which is too bad. There is a satisfaction in manipulating something tangible, as opposed to just doodling. Maybe I'll finish the Angry Carrot model I had started a few years back. I bought some fairly cheap plasticine but maybe something a little higher grade might inspire me.

Nice work, Sam.

Thanks, Ned.

If you want some good modeling compound, I'd go with Super Sculpey. It's great for detail work, and it only requires a home oven (275 degrees F) to harden. There's a new version called Super Sculpey Firm that's better for small details, but Super Sculpey is what I use currently.

I want Super Sculpey just because it's fun to say Super Sculpey. There's a pretty good art store in my neighborhood, I may have a look this coming weekend.

That's pretty sweet. Great skill. Any chance you can use it on the cake?

Neat, Sam! I've been meaning to try sculpting again. I did it in one of my college art classes many moons ago and loved it. But there's that whole lazy thing.

Hmmm. It would have to be as the groom. My Future-Wife(TM) possesses none of the qualities of an Alien.

well, yeah, I did mean as the groom. I wasn't trying to imply alien queen traits in your wife (you want how many babies!?) :)

Do you realize how much clay that would take?
