I shared this in irc, but thought I'd go one further :)

Why did the programmer dress like Santa on Halloween?

Because Oct(31) = Dec(25).

That joke is so bad that it deserves a permabanning.

Those damn eays always ruin it for everyone. Also, I'm glad I'm not a big enough geek to understand the joke. Or perhaps I'm just a dumb geek. :(

Ya know, I hate to be the one to bring this up, but it needs bringing up; if we are Martians (ie. beings from the planet Mars), wouldn't being permabanned to our own planet be futile? I mean, if we are going to send somebody Superman II style to somewhere unpleasant, maybe it should be Uranus. Or Siberia. Or Iowa.

Any ideas?

Tai told it in chat and I acted like I got it. I did "heh" on the ride home when it finally clicked, tho.

octal to decimal conversion... Tai is a monster dork.

I don't know what's worse, that he told the joke, or that I can do the conversion from dec to binary to hex in my head.

Thanks for this post, Circuit! I thought I was the only one not getting it. I still can't follow the conversion, but I don't feel bad about it after several others admitted that they are not geeky enough for it either. (Thanks for your post too, Arm.) I was already tempted to use Jen's standard excuse - I am a girl, and a blonde to boot. But now I know that the comforting truth is much easier: We are just not Tai!

And now I suggest that Tai immediately cuts his hair short, makes sure some pieces of it are sticking out in obvious disarray, gets a pair of geeky-looking glasses, and permanently carries an empty pizza box under his arm. After all, it is really unfair to hide such geekiness behind the outfit of a harmless hippie! :spank:
