I was out camping and missed it. was it any good?
Why the new Dr?
Was he any good? I liked the old one, this one looks too goofy, even more than the big eared previous one.
If I recall correctly, the BBC has said there will be a new guy playing the Dr. for each season.

No, the one in the second season is also doing the third I believe. The reason for the switch was that the actor who played the Doctor the first season only signed to do one season, and after doing it, decided against contracting for additional seasons. There was an interview in Starlog with him after it was announced that he wouldn't be returning, and he basically said he enjoyed it, but that he'd only signed up for one season and didn't want to be typecast if he did more. I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of the earlier Doctor actors hadn't given him that advice.
so out of curiosity, has anyone read any of the books?

I think it's become expected that the Dr changes on a regular basis. Not only expected, but required. Fans would be upset if he didn't change.

I wouldn't be upset. I got started watching Tom Baker and Peter Davidson, who did like 10 or 12 years of shows combined (I know Baker was 7 and Davidson at least 3). Then they went through Colin Baker (thankfully) and Sylvester McCoy (who I never saw all the shows from) very quickly. And then there was Paul McGann in the TV movie, one appearance in the role only. No, I liked it better when we got several years with a single actor in the role.

SPOILER:
All I know is I saw part of the show where the Dr takes some woman back to witness her dad's death (in her "real" time she was a little girl when this happens) and somehow she convinces him to take her back again at the same time (so there is a Bill and Ted doubles moment) she runs out and saves dad from getting killed. Their doubles see them and vanish, apparently its bad to see yourself duplicated in the past.
Anyway, they are back at dad's place and the doc is all pissed at her saying even little disturbances in the past can have drastic consequences for the future. He then proceeds to leave her in the past, seemingly ignoring the principle he just bitched her out about.
So I had to pretty much turn it off because it was stupid.

I did like the first doctor more then this new one. What really worries me though is there is talk that Rose is not coming back. One of the women that plays a background roll is supose to take over. :( Oh there is going to be a spin off too by the sounds of it.
Tom Baker is the one true Doctor Who.
