1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154045) has the story confirming that the Marvel MMO, tentatively titled Marvel Universe Online, will be published by Microsoft on the Xbox 360 and PC and will be developed by...Cryptic Studios.
So first comes litigation, the comes love! The MMO is a long way off, but it will be interesting to see how Cryptic takes the lessons they learned and applies them to a game in which Wolverine clones will be A-OK.

Please explain. I have no idea what this means.

The links in the 1UP story pretty much cover it. Marvel sued Cryptic and after many months, the suit was settled, with terms undisclosed. Cryptic was perceived to be the "winner" because no changes have been made to CoH or CoV as a result. But presumably there would have been bad blood between the two companies because of the litigation and now it's been revealed that Cryptic will actually be developing the MMO for Marvel.
It would be like Coca Cola suing Pepsi over Diet Pepsi and then later hiring Pepsi to make Diet Coke. Or something.

Now I get it. I guess it's especially weird since Cryptic accepted, meaning they will cannibalize their own market. At least it has more chance to be a good game. They already know the ropes.
Very weird indeed.

Wolverine Clones there will be but will they crack down on the numerous ways to mimick the name Wolverine or Logan as well as all the other characters in the Marvel Universe.
What, you mean I still can't roll "The Hunk" ?

Well, it will probably be several years before this game ever gets finished and I would imagine anyone remaining in CoH/V by that time will jump ship. If it turns out to be a superhero game based in the Marvel universe with more polish than CoH/V has now, I'm all for it. My biggest gripe has always been all the nagging bugs and crap that never get taken care of in an otherwise great game. Every game will have bugs, but I've never seen a developer allow so many to stick around for so long.
This announcement also pretty much guarantees that there won't be any sort of sequel to CoH.

Also, the moderators on the official CoH boards are locking every thread talking about this.

That leaves only 50 billion threads to go.

After doing Heroes and Villians, I don't know what's left for sequels. I'd say maybe City of The Unaffiliated Nuetral Marginally Powered, but I think the acronym is too long.
I wonder how they plan on approaching bazillions of ACTUAL Wolvering clones, and not just heroes and/or villians that bear a striking resemblance to Wolverine.
Keep in mind that won't be a problem with Spiderman, who does in fact HAVE bazillions of clones in the ill-fated storyline of the comics.
