I never got this when it came out, cause after Opposing Force (which was good) I was over my fatuation with Half-Life mods (at the time they were myriad).

Having the opportunity to play it free now with the HL2 silver package, I am glad they revived this expansion.

The gameplay is solid Half-Life, but the puzzles are challenging and the gunfights are furious. I played it on hard, and there are a few fights with minimal room for error.

If you have access to play Blue Shift, I highly recommend it. It's short (about 3 hours long) but now that it's free I can't see any reason to miss it. :)

I actually have had Blue Shift for a long time, but was never able to get it to run on my PC.

I had it for a while until I gave it to a friend because I had one of those CDROM drives that wouldn't install it properly.

That was me, actually. It installed fine on my system at the time. :)

It was a fun little expansion but pretty much the opposite of Opposing Force - no new enemies, weapons or really anything other than level design. That said, it was an enjoyable ride and bucked FPS convention by not ending with a boss monster.

Trivia: It was originally supposed to be a Dreamcast game but after the DC bombed was retooled for the PC instead (also why it is a standalone game despite being billed as an expansion).

Valve is promising the High Definition Pack for it in about a week's time if you want it to look like a 2001 game instead of a 1998 one.

Oh yeah. I couldn't remember if I gave it to you, Reaver, or a guy at work, so I said "friend". I'll edit the post and replace "friend" with "some Canadian dude I play City of Heroes nearly every day with". :jester:
